The invention relates to a detergent composition which is a liquid detergent composition which comprises a surfactant, a proteolytic enzyme, and an enzyme inhibitor which is a peptide aldehyde. Said peptide aldehyde inhibitor contain 4 or 5 amino acids. Said peptide aldehydes are used to enhance the stability of proteolytic enzymes in liquid detergent environments.

Liquid detergent compositions are disclosed which contain conventional detergency ingredients and an enzyme system, wherein the enzyme system comprises a mixture of a lipase, or mixtures thereof, and a modified bacterial serine protease, or mixtures of said proteases.

Liquid detergents with an aryl acid for inhibition of proteolytic enzyme

Included are liquid detergent compositions containing alphahydroxyacid builder, anionic and/or nonionic surfactant, proteolytic enzyme, second enzyme, and a mixture of certain vicinal polyols and boric acid or its derivative. The equilibrium constants for the boric/polyol reaction are K.sub.1 between about 0.1 and 400 l/mole and K.sub.2 between 0 and about 1000 l.sup.2 /mole.sup.2.
