A build material dispensing device may include a material spreader to spread an amount of build material along a build platform, and at least one hopper for dispensing the build material. The at least one hopper dispenses a plurality of doses of the build material in front of the progression of the material spreader as the material spreader is moved over the build platform.

According to one aspect, there is provided apparatus for forming a layer of build material for three-dimensional printing. The apparatus comprises a spreader to spread a volume of build material to form a layer of build material on a build platform, wherein at least one end of the spreader is to remain a constant distance from a build material retaining wall in proximity to at least one edge of the build platform as the spreader is moved over the surface of the build platform, and further wherein at least a portion of the spreader is below the top of the retaining wall.

Forming a layer of build material

According to one example, there is provided a method of generating three-dimensional objects in a three-dimensional printing system comprising a pair of movable build modules. The method comprises moving a first build module into a build position, executing a 3D print job in the first build module, moving the first build module into a post-build position, performing post-processing operations on the first build module, moving a second build module into the build position, and executing a 3D print job in the second build module.

A printing system includes a printhead to eject ink onto a print medium in a print zone. A first roller pair is adjacent to the print zone to advance a print medium into the print zone. A second roller pair upstream from the first roller pair, and driven by an independent motor, advances the print medium to the first roller pair in a position control mode. A controller causes the second roller pair to switch from the position control mode to a force control mode when a leading edge of the print medium reaches the first roller pair. The second roller pair applies a substantially constant force to the print medium in the force control mode to push the leading edge of the print medium against the first roller pair while the first roller pair is stationary.

Examples include an indication of whether a print job is a cut media or continuous media print job. Examples include acquisition of information indicating whether a print job to be printed on a printing device is a cut media print job or a continuous media print job, and determination of when reflected intensity of output light reflected within the printing device has crossed a detection threshold.

A printer system includes a handling system to move print media, a print medium detection sensor to produce a response indicative of an object, and a processor coupled to the handling system and to the print medium detection sensor to perform a two-point calibration of the sensor. The first point of the two-point calibration includes a first response from the sensor, and a second point of the two-point calibration includes a second response from the sensor.

Example embodiments disclosed herein relate to a print media jam clearance assembly for use in a printing device. The print media jam clearance assembly includes a first print medium jam clearance position and a second print medium jam clearance position. This is accomplished, in part, by a repositionable platen of the printing device.

A combination cartridge apparatus includes a housing, an inkjet pen and a media cartridge. The combination cartridge is configured to hold the inkjet pen and media cassette adjacent to each other external of a printer. The inkjet pen and media cassette are configured to separate when the cartridge is installed in a printer and to rejoin when the cartridge is withdrawn from the printer.

An inkjet consumable cartridge having an inkjet cartridge having nozzles. The inkjet consumable cartridge also has an inkjet cartridge holding device for holding the inkjet cartridge, a cap configured to interface with the inkjet cartridge, and a cap actuator that, when actuated, moves the cap from a position where the cap does not interface with the inkjet cartridge to a position where the cap interfaces with the inkjet cartridge sealingly covering the nozzles. Furthermore, the consumable cartridge is removable from a printer as a self-contained unit.

A multi-purpose, transmissive paper sensor includes a light beam projector and light detector having an analog output signal. Changes in the output signal from an open loop condition indicate the presences of at least one print medium being in the field-of-view of the sensor. Output signals indicative of print media leading edge, trailing edge, and number of sheets interrupting the light beam provide improved print media transport control for hard copy apparatus.

Method and apparatus for print media detection

An embodiment of a media movement apparatus is used to detect an edge of a unit of media in a media path in an inkjet printer using an optical sensor. When the inkjet printer is operating in a mode in which units of media are continuously moved into the media path, a mechanical sensor will not reliably allow detection of the leading edge of a unit of media. Determining the location of the leading edge of the unit of media is done to correctly place an image on the unit of the media. After ejecting the previous unit of the media into an output tray, the current unit of the media is moved backward in the media path while measuring the output of an optical sensor. If the edge is detected while moving backward, the current unit of the media is moved to the input side of a print zone. If the edge is not detected and the optical sensor indicates the presence of media, a media jam is indicated. If the edge is not detected and the optical sensor indicates the absence of media, the current unit of the media is moved forward while measuring the output of the optical sensor to detect the edge. If the edge is detected, then the current unit of the media is moved forward a predetermined distance. Next, the current unit of the media is moved backward in the media path while measuring the output of the optical sensor.

Media movement apparatus

Time between recording print on one media sheet and a subsequent media sheet is substantially reduced by ejecting, picking and loading within a single transmission state. In a continuous feed mode multi-sheet job, individual media sheets are continuously picked and loaded. The leading edge of one media sheet is substantially adjacent to the trailing edge of the prior media sheet. A media support plate is maintained in a raised position during the entire continuous feed cycle. The support plate biases a paper stack into communication with a pick roller. As the trailing edge of one media sheet exits the media stack, the leading edge of the next media sheet is already in position for engagement with the pick roller. Upon completion of print recording, a media sheet is ejected into an output tray by accelerating the media sheet. Such acceleration is achieved while remaining in the single transmission state.
