A process to make propylene can include providing a reaction zone containing a catalyst and introducing a feedstock into the reaction zone. The catalyst can be an acid. The feedstock can include ethylene, dimethyl ether or methanol and dimethyl ether with at least 1000 wppm of dimethyl ether, and optionally steam. The feedstock can be contacted with the catalyst at temperature and pressure conditions to produce an effluent, including propylene, hydrocarbons, steam, optionally unconverted methanol and/or unconverted dimethyl ether and optionally unconverted ethylene. The temperature at the inlet of the reaction zone can be under 280&#xb0; C., such as from 50 to 280&#xb0; C. The effluent can be sent to a fractionation zone to recover propylene, optionally methanol, dimethyl ether and optionally ethylene. At least a part of methanol, dimethyl ether, and ethylene can be recycled to the reaction zone at step b).

The invention relates to an intraluminal device, in particular an intraluminal prosthesis, shunt, catheter or local drug delivery device. In order to increase the bio-compatibility of this device, it is provided with at least one coating. The coating contains a therapeutic agent which is comprised in a matrix that sticks to the intraluminal device. Instead of being formed by a little bio-compatible polymer, the matrix is formed by a bio-compatible oil or fat, such as cod-liver oil or olive oil. Preferably, the bio-compatible oil or fat further comprises alfa-tocopherol.

The invention relates generally to the production of oxygenated hydrocarbons such as lower alcohols and more preferably 1,2-propanediol. More particularly, this invention comprises a single-step catalytic process for the catalytic production of lower alcohols such as methanol, ethanol, ethylene glycol and 1,2-propanediol from glycerol in aqueous medium. The catalyst comprises a metal selected from the Group VIII transition metals, preferably platinum, alloys thereof and mixtures thereof and a microporous carrier, preferably a faujasite-type zeolite.

The present invention relates to a process for preparing secondary amides with good selectivity by carbonylating a corresponding tertiary amine with carbon monoxide in a reaction mixture in the presence of a metal catalyst and in the presence of a halogen containing promoter. A same or even a much better catalytic activity can be obtained with palladium than with the much more expensive rhodium, especially when the palladium is used in a low concentration. Moreover, also a good selectivity can be achieved.

High throughput screening for rapid development of membranes and membrane processes

A method is provided for incorporating zeolite crystals in patterned structures, the zeolite crystals having pores (channels) with an orientation which is defined by the topology of the zeolite crystal type and the geometry of the patterned structure, resulting in pores parallel with the length axis of the patterned structures. The patterned structures may be vias (vertical contacts) and trenches (horizontal lines) in a semiconductor substrate. These zeolite crystals can advantageously be used for dense and aligned nanocarbon growth or in other words growth of carbon nanostructures such as carbon nanotubes (CNT) within the pores of the zeolite structure. The growth of CNT is achieved within the porous structure of the zeolite crystals whereby the pores can be defined as confined spaces (channels) in nanometer dimensions acting as a micro-reactor for CNT growth. A method for growing carbon nanostructures within zeolite crystals is also provided, by adding, after creation of the zeolite crystals, a novel compound within the porous structure of the zeolite crystals whereby said novel compound is acting as a carbon source to create the carbon nanostructures. The improved growth method gives a significantly higher carbon density (yield) compared to state of the art techniques.

A process for producing gamma-butyrolactone by catalytic hydrogenation of maleic anyhydride in the liquid phase with hydrogen, at a high temperature and under pressure, in the presence of a catalyst comprising nickel and palladium deposited on a support, wherein said support is a silica based support having a very high specific surface area , the value of which may range from 50 m.sup.2 /g, preferably from about 100 m.sup.2 /g to about 800 m.sup.2 /g and more. Very high conversion rates of 90-98 mole % and excellent selectivities to gamma-butyrolactone of 95 to 97 mole % are achieved by the process.
