The textile support for thermo-bonding interlining according to the invention is constituted by a weft knit, composed exclusively of yarns of biodegradable cellulosic matter, particularly viscose, the warp being exclusively of continuous multi-filament yarns. The support was preferably subjected, prior to the application of the thermo-fusible polymer spots, to a treatment of mechanical compacting by passage between a heated cylinder and a compression belt, the temperature of the cylinder being at the most 130.degree. C. The thermo-bonding interlining, comprising the textile support mentioned above, after application of the spots of thermo-fusible polymer, was advantageously subjected to a second treatment of mechanical compacting, similar to the first, the cylinder being heated only to a temperature less than 80.degree. C.

A method producing a thermobonding interlining comprises the steps of depositing a non-woven layer of intermingled fibers or filaments presented in a general direction on a conveyor of wire netting, directing toward said conveyor weft yarns made of textured continuous filaments that are kept in a stretched condition and parallel with one another; depositing the weft yarns in a zone where the non-woven layer is being deposited such that the weft yarns are oriented crosswise to the general direction of and covered by the non-woven layer. Afterwards, such superposed weft yarns and non-woven layer assembly is subject to the high pressure jets of water from injectors disposed above the conveyor so that the weft yarns and the fibers or filaments of the non-woven layer are intermingled to obtain a base material of interlining. A thermo-adhesive product is formed from a backing fabric with a thermo-adhesive layer deposited on its surface. In a preferred embodiment, the thermo-adhesive layer is deposited in a discontinuous fashion as dots. The thermo-adhesive layer is formed of polymers which are non-tacky at ambient temperatures but which become tacky and plastic at a first elevated temperature range which is beneath the critical temperature for the polymeric composition, and which become thermo-setting at a second elevated temperature range which is above the critical temperature. In alternate preferred embodiments, the thermo-adhesive compositions can be cross-linked under the influence of radiation from an electron beam or UV radiation.

The thermobonding interlining is a nonwoven covered on one face with dots of thermobonding resin. According to the invention, the nonwoven is a web, containing no binding agent, of which the g/m2 weight is less than 50, which is produced from fibers in a thermoplastic material, such as polyamide; the mean diameter of the fibers is comprised between 1 and 5 .mu.m, the consolidation of the nonwoven is obtained by intermingling of the fibers by high pressure streams of fluid, notably by injection of water at pressures of 40 to 80 bars, or by thermal bonding. For example, the fibers being obtained from a mixture of constitutents having different melting points, the bonding points result from the melting and bonding of the zones of fibers having the lowest melting point.
