Wings are provided on mold components and linear ways are provided below these wings. A pad rides on each linear way below each wing. A force generator, such as a spring, is disposed between each wing and underlying pad. In this way the weight of the mold components is borne, at least in part, by the linear ways so that the weight on components that might otherwise sag is lessened.

Weight compensated molding machine

An in-mold shutter () for embedding in an injection mold () is described herein. The in-mold shutter () includes a shutter actuator () that is configured to selectively engage a first mold shoe () of the injection mold () with a platen of a mold clamping assembly () to hold the first mold shoe () in an extended position (E), along a mold-stroke axis (X), during a step of molding a first molded article (A) in the injection mold (). Also described herein is a molded article transfer device () for use with the injection mold (). The molded article transfer device () includes a shuttle () that is slidably arranged, in use, within the injection mold (). The shuttle () defines a first aperture (A), at least in part, that alternately accommodates: (i) a first mold stack (A,A,A) arranged therein; and (ii) a first molded article (A) received therein with opening of the first mold stack (A,A,A).

Molding apparatus

An in-mold shutter for embedding in an injection mold is described herein. The in-mold shutter includes a shutter actuator that is configured to selectively engage a first mold shoe of the injection mold with a platen of a mold clamping assembly to hold the first mold shoe in an extended position, along a mold-stroke axis, during a step of molding a first molded article in the injection mold. Also described herein is a molded article transfer device for use with the injection mold. The molded article transfer device includes a shuttle that is slidably arranged, in use, within the injection mold. The shuttle defines a first aperture, at least in part, that alternately accommodates: a first mold stack arranged therein; and (ii) a first molded article received therein with opening of the first mold stack.

Disclosed herein, amongst other things is a first stack portion () of a mold stack () for use in an injection mold (). The first stack portion () includes a first stack member that is configured to define a molding cavity () in cooperation with a second stack portion () of the mold stack (), a second stack member that is movable relative to the first stack member, and an air valve () is defined between the first stack member and the second stack member, the air valve () being selectively actuatable with relative movement of the first stack member and the second stack member.

Molded article transfer device

An in-mold shutter () for embedding in an injection mold () is described herein. The in-mold shutter () includes a shutter actuator () that is configured to selectively engage a first mold shoe () of the injection mold () with a platen of a mold clamping assembly () to hold the first mold shoe () in an extended, (E), along a mold-stroke axis (X), during a step of molding a first molded article (A) in the injection mold (). Also described herein is a molded article transfer device () for use with the injection mold (). The molded article transfer device () includes a shuttle () that is slidably arranged, in use, within the injection mold (). The shuttle () defines a first aperture (A), at least in part, that alternately accommodates: (i) a first mold stack (A,A,A) arranged therein; and (ii) a first molded article (A) received therein with opening of the first mold stack (A,A,A).

An extruder unit () for an injection molding system () includes a piston (), slidably located within a piston chamber (), and is movable between a retracted position and an extended position. The piston () is further adapted to rotatably mount a screw (). A motor assembly () is mounted to the piston housing () and operable to rotate the screw (). The piston () is translated by a hybrid injection actuator (), the hybrid injection actuator () including: a drive unit () operable to move the piston () between the retracted position and the extended position; and a gas pressure unit (), operable to provide a boosting force to the piston (), thereby urging the piston () towards the extended position.

Described herein is a mold. The mold includes a first mold half and a second mold half. A molding cavity is definable between the first mold half and the second mold half within which a molded article is moldable. The mold also includes a core configured to form a seal on the molded article. The first mold half and the second mold half are configured to remain in a mold closed configuration with molding and stripping of the molded article.

A molded article transfer device () is described herein that is associated, in use, with an injection mold (). The molded article transfer device () includes a transfer structure () that defines, amongst other things, a first aperture (A) that is structured to receive a first molded article (A) from a first mold stack (A,A) of the injection mold (). The transfer structure () also defines a first branch channel (A) and a first trunk channel (A) through which the first molded article (A) is passable. The first branch channel (A) connects the first aperture (A) with the first trunk channel (A) for passing, in use, the first molded article (A) thereto, whereafter it passes through the first trunk channel (A) towards an exit (A) thereof.

A system in which gravitation and inertial effects on platen verticality and sagging are compensated by an anti-tilt actuator (). A hydraulic actuator () secured beneath the platen is either set to offset only gravitationally-related sagging of the mold half () by providing a compensating upward force (relative to a stable clamp base), or otherwise its upward force can be dynamically adjusted also to compensate for swaying or tilting of the mold-platen assembly caused by stroke cylinder () operation and related inertia/momentum effects. Preferably, a level sensor () measures and communicates a degree of horizontalness/verticality of the platen () to a machine controller () which, in turn, generates a control signal () to cause variation in cylinder pressure in the anti-tilt actuator (), thereby achieving substantially continuous alignment between the mold halves () and reduced component wear.

Disclosed is a mold carrier having: a first external surface and a second external surface being located opposite the first external surface, arranged to mount, in use, respective mold halves; a main hot runner channel; first and second hot runner nozzles in a back-to-back configuration, the first and second hot runner nozzles having bases and connected to the main hot runner channel to receive, in use, molten plastic therefrom, the first and second hot runner nozzles each having a substantially planar sealing surface configured to provide an interface, in use, to a substantially planar interface surface in the respective mold halves; and springs operatively mounted between the nozzle bases and nozzles to spring-load the nozzles against the mold halves for improved sealing sprue bushings being received in the mold halves; and mold locating rings being received by the first external surface and the second external surface, the mold locating rings being configured to locate and position the mold halves relative to the first and second hot runner nozzles and of the sprue bushings, and the mold locating rings aligning and locating with a selected one of the mold halves so that the first and second hot runner nozzles may touch the sprue bushings.
