Methods and systems for controlling integrated air conditioning systems

An air conditioning system having a free-cooling mode. The system includes a refrigeration circuit have a compressor, a pump, an expansion device having a variable opening, and a controller. The controller selectively operates the system in the free-cooling mode by circulating the refrigerant through the refrigeration circuit via the pump. The system includes a free-cooling capacity control sequence resident on the controller. The free-cooling capacity control sequence adjusts the cooling capacity of the system at least by adjusting the variable opening based on the temperature difference between a working fluid temperature and a set point temperature.

Free-cooling capacity control for air conditioning systems

An air conditioning system having a cooling mode and a free-cooling mode. The system having a refrigeration circuit having a compressor and a pump; a suction pressure sensor for measuring a suction pressure of the compressor; a discharge pressure sensor for measuring a discharge pressure of the compressor; a controller for selectively operating in the cooling mode by circulating and compressing a refrigerant through the refrigeration circuit via the compressor or operating in the free-cooling mode by circulating the refrigerant through the refrigeration circuit via the pump; and a recover-refrigerant sequence resident on the controller, the recover-refrigerant sequence being configured to pump the refrigerant in a portion of the refrigeration circuit not used in the free-cooling mode to remaining portions of the refrigeration circuit used in the free-cooling mode when the controller switches from the cooling mode to the free-cooling mode.

A reversible cooling/heating system has an in-line accumulator/dryer unit. The accumulator/dryer unit has a body having first and second ports. A foraminate conduit is positioned at least partially within the body. A desiccant at least partially surrounds a first portion of the conduit.

An apparatus for managing refrigerant charge in an air conditioning unit comprising a cooling circuit through which a refrigerant flows from a compressor, through a condenser, and through an evaporator, a heat recovery circuit extending from a first terminus between the compressor and the condenser to a second terminus between the evaporator and the condenser, a heat recovery unit located between the first and second terminus of the heat recovery circuit, a first valve located between the condenser and the first terminus, a second valve located between the first terminus and the heat recovery unit, a third valve located on a cooling charge circuit having a first end on the cooling circuit between the condenser and the evaporator and a second end at the evaporator, a fourth valve located on a heating charge circuit having a first end on the heat recovery circuit and a second end at the evaporator, and a logic unit for sensing a saturated temperature and opening and closing the valves based upon the saturated temperature to manage the refrigerant charge.
