A system that incorporates teachings of the present disclosure may include, for example, a process that includes obtaining three-dimensional image content having first and second images. The first and second images include first and second numbers of pixels. The first and second images are arranged according to a shared coordinate system to portray different perspectives of a common scene. A first portion of pixels are removed from the first image based on a filtering of the first image, resulting in a first remaining number of pixels. A second portion of pixels are removed from the second image based on positions of the first portion of pixels in the shared coordinate system, resulting in a second remaining number of pixels. The first remaining portion of pixels is combined with the second remaining portion of pixels to form a transport frame for delivery to a media processor. Other embodiments are disclosed.

Apparatus and method for distributing three dimensional media content

A system or method for processing a variable bit rate representation of an image sequence can include segmenting a variable bit rate representation of an image sequence into a plurality of segments and creating a second representation of the image sequence where a block of information from a first segment of the plurality of segments is interlaced with blocks of information of a second segment of the plurality of segments. The second representation of the image sequence can include a fragment header indicating the block of information of the first segment of the plurality of segments interlaced with the blocks of information of the second segment of the plurality of segments.

Method and system of processing image sequences

A method comprises determining a plurality of time intervals Tp and Tn within a variable bit rate (VBR) representation of an image sequence. The time intervals Tp are those in which a number of blocks of information per unit time is greater than a baseline value. The time intervals Tn are those in which a number of blocks of information per unit time is less than the baseline value. A second representation of the image sequence is created in which some blocks of information Bp are removed from the time intervals Tp and interlaced with blocks of information Bn in the time intervals Tn to reduce a variation in a number of blocks of information per unit time between the time intervals Tp and Tn.

Method and system to improve the transport of compressed video data

A system that incorporates teachings of the present disclosure may include, for example, a server having a controller to receive 3D image content with a plurality of left eye frames and a plurality of right eye frames, remove a portion of pixels from each left eye frame and from the corresponding right eye frame, combine remaining pixels from each left eye frame of the plurality of left eye frames with remaining pixels from the corresponding right eye frame of the plurality of right eye frames to form a plurality of transport frames where the combined remaining pixels form an alternating pattern of pixels based on either alternating rows of pixels or alternating columns of pixels from each left eye frame and the corresponding right eye frame, and encode the plurality of transport frames for delivery to a media processor. A set-top box (STB) of a television system receives web-based content, such as a web page, from a wide area network such as the Internet. The web-based content is provided to the STB for display. In response to an instruction, the STB provides all or a portion of the web-based content to a printer for printing. The printer can be connected to the STB via a network or through a computer connected to the STB on the same network. By providing an option to print the web-based content, the usefulness of the content is enhanced.

Television printing device and methods thereof

A system for transporting content to subscriber premises includes a centralized content repository, a subscriber unit, and a network connecting the subscriber unit and repository. The content can be video, image, or other files and the network can include a digital subscriber line (DSL) link. The repository stores higher quality parts of decomposed content files. The subscriber unit locally stores lower quality parts of the content files corresponding to the higher quality parts in the repository. The lower quality parts can be downloaded to the subscriber unit during off-peak hours. During operation, a subscriber selects a locally stored file. In response to the selection, the repository downloads at least one of the higher quality parts corresponding to the selected file to be combined with one of the lower quality parts stored by the subscriber unit for real-time presentation of the content.

Method and system for transferring content to a networked unit

A single compression engine transmits first and second discrete cosine transform (DCT)-encoded signals. The first DCT-encoded signal uses at most t coefficient bits to represent each of a plurality of DCT coefficients. The second DCT-encoded signal uses at most u coefficient bits, where u is less than t, to represent each of the plurality of DCT coefficients.

Multilevel data compression using a single compression engine

A system that incorporates teachings of the present disclosure may include, for example, a set top box having a controller to receive a single video stream comprising two-dimensional image content and a depth map of the two-dimensional image content, generate three-dimensional image content in real-time from the two-dimensional image content and the depth map where the three-dimensional image content is generated when a display device operably coupled with the set top box is determined to be capable of presenting the three-dimensional image content, and provide either the two-dimensional image content or the three-dimensional image content to the display device.
