High impact strength, improved bending modulus composites are comprised of a polymeric matrix, e.g., elastomer or synthetic polymer of polypropylene or polyamide type, said matrix having highly dispersed therein a reinforcing amount of relatively small synthetic zeolitic filler particulates, e.g., of types A, 4A and Na-P, and the mean size of the elementary particles thereof advantageously closely approximating those of the secondary particles.

Elastomeric/polymeric matrices, e.g., rigid polyvinyl chloride resins, are reinforced with impact strength enhancing amounts of calcium carbonate filler particulates, said particulates being surface area treated with both an organic sulfonic acid or salt thereof, and a fatty acid or salt thereof. The resultant compositions are well adapted for the fabrication of strong, useful shaped articles therefrom.

A coated paper for offset printing in which the paper is coated with an aqueous latex containing particles of a diameter within the range of 0.20 to 0.30 microns of a copolymer of butadiene styrene and unsaturated carboxylic acid having a composition consisting essentially of 35-40% by weight butadiene, 50-63% by weight styrene and 2-10% by weight of at least one unsaturated carboxylic ethylenic acid.

A coated substrate for photogravure printing in which the substrate is coated with an aqueous latex containing as an essential film forming component particles of a copolymer of butadiene and carboxylated styrene having a particle size within the range of 0.08-0.14 microns and consisting essentially of 41-45% by weight butadiene, 45-57% by weight styrene and 2-10% by weight of at least one unsaturated carboxylic ethylenic acid.

A paper or cardboard coating composition comprising an aqueous dispersion containing binder and pigment in which 5-30 percent by weight of the pigment are particles dimensioned within the range of 0.05-0.3 microns of a non-film forming synthetic polymer and in which 70-95 percent by weight of the pigment is calcium carbonate.
