A method for assigning a Voice Control Continuity (VCC) server to a User Equipment (UE) in a telecommunications network includes receiving an indication that the UE is registering with the network or attempting to make or receive an IMS communication session. A telephony network routing identifier and a VCC point code are assigned to the UE. The telephony network routing identifier is sent to the UE through the network and the VCC point code for the UE is sent through the network to the HLR to update the UE's profile data in the HLR.

A system and method to provide call delivery to an Internet Protocol Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) network for a Mobile Directory Number (MDN) homed in a second generation (2G) wireless network, without requiring Wireless Intelligent Network (WIN) operations and associated Mobile Switching Center emulation (MSCe) translations for routing the call request. A Home Location Register (HLR) determines whether the subscriber has subscribed to the IMS services. The HLR-based subscriber profile is enhanced with new IMS-related subscriber information. Enhanced American National Standards Institute-41 (ANSI-41) Mobile Application Part (MAP) operations and a new ANSI-41 parameter allow the MSCe to re-route the call origination request from a Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) to an entry point for the IMS network based upon the new IMS-related subscriber information received from the HLR. A Domain Name Server (DNS) supports routing-related traffic distribution.

Call delivery to an IMS network for a mobile directory number homed in a 2G wireless network

A VCC in a telecommunications network which also has an HLR, an S-CSCF, and an IMS mobile or UE. The VCC includes a network interface unit of the VCC which receives an indication that the mobile is registering with the network or attempting to make or receive an IMS communication session. The VCC includes a processing unit of the VCC which assigns a VDN or a telephony network routing identifier for the mobile, and assigns a VCC point code. The VDN is sent from the network interface unit through the network to the UE or the mobile. The VCC point code for the mobile or the UE is sent from the network interface through the network to the HLR to update the mobile's or UE's profile data in the HLR. A method for assigning a VCC to an IMS mobile or UE in a telecommunications network which also has an HLR and an S-CSCF.

The present invention supports an authentication protocol on a foreign agent to avoid rejecting re-registration request when congestion has delayed receipt at a mobile node of a foreign agent challenge code in a registration reply or agent advertisement message. Upon receipt of a re-registration request message containing a stale foreign agent challenge code, the identification code of the re-registration request message is compared to the identification code of the previous valid registration request message. If the identification code is greater than and not equal to the identification code in the previous valid request message, the foreign agent authenticates the message. The authenticated registration request message is processed to reset the lifetime so the communication session can continue.

Method for mobile node-foreign agent challenge optimization

A method and apparatus for dynamically assigning a home agent to a mobile station for a mobile IP session. The method and apparatus allow the telecommunications network to assign the home agent that is best able to serve the mobile station. This is achieved by utilizing a predetermined IP address that indicates to the network components, such as the packet-switched data network, the home agent, the home authorization, authentication, and accounting server, and the like, that the mobile station is requesting a dynamically assigned home agent.
