A system for driving an ultrasonic device for bone cement removal and/or osteotomy operations comprises a control unit, a memory unit, and a connector for connecting together the control unit and a handset of the ultrasonic device. The control unit is configured to send a signal to the handset, receive from the handset a response to the signal sent, and check an operating condition of the ultrasonic device based on this response.
