A system of treating atelectasis is provided that includes a tracheal tube positioned within an airway of a ventilated patient and an acoustic sensor coupled to the tracheal tube. The system also includes a monitor communicatively coupled to the acoustic sensor. The monitor includes a processor configured to receive a baseline signal from the acoustic sensor. The processor is configured to provide control instructions to adjust a pressure of a gas mixture delivered to the airway through the tracheal tube. The processor is also configured to receive an updated signal from the acoustic sensor after the adjustment and identify a change in airway openness of lungs of the ventilated patient caused by the adjustment of the pressure. Further, identifying the change is based on the baseline signal and the updated signal.

Systems and methods for clinician decision support during mechanical ventilation of a patient comprise evaluating a shape and/or characteristics of a waveform to detect an anomaly. While mechanical ventilators are equipped with a number of alarms and alerts when monitored patient data breaches various alarm thresholds, some anomalies in patient data may go unnoticed by clinicians. These anomalies, however, may provide relevant information regarding patient condition. Accordingly, in response to detecting an anomaly, the ventilator captures at least a portion of the waveform. The waveform capture, which may be annotated with various labels and educational information, may be reviewed by a clinician to obtain additional information regarding the anomaly. In this way, clinicians may be trained to recognize and address anomalies associated with waveform data and thereby be armed with information to optimize patient-ventilator interaction.

Systems and methods for monitoring, managing, and/or preventing fatigue during ventilation

This disclosure describes systems and methods for monitoring and evaluating ventilatory parameters, analyzing those parameters and providing useful notifications and recommendations to clinicians. That is, modern ventilators monitor, evaluate, and graphically represent multiple ventilatory parameters. However, many clinicians may not easily recognize data patterns and correlations indicative of certain patient conditions, changes in patient condition, and/or effectiveness of ventilatory treatment. Further, clinicians may not readily determine appropriate ventilatory adjustments that may address certain patient conditions and/or the effectiveness of ventilatory treatment. Specifically, clinicians may not readily detect or recognize the presence of asynchrony during ventilation. According to embodiments, a ventilator may be configured to monitor and evaluate diverse ventilatory parameters to detect asynchrony and may issue notifications and recommendations suitable for a patient to the clinician when asynchrony is implicated. The suitable notifications and recommendations may further be provided in a hierarchical format.
