A connector attached to an end of a twisted wire pair, whose other end has fetal and maternal electrodes. A driving tube is removed from the twisted wire pair by pulling a drive handle and driving tube over the connector. The outer diameter of the connector is smaller than the inner diameter of the driving tube. After the connector is free, it is inserted into a housing of a leg plate, which electrically interconnects terminals of the connector and thereby the electrodes with a remote monitoring device. The housing has finger grips to help hold the housing during the insertion of the connector. The leg plate also has a base which is held in position against a mother's leg and has a ground electrode which is also electrically interconnected with the device. The housing is rotatable relative to the base.

A female fetal electrode product includes a socket connector electrically connected to fetal and maternal electrodes. The female connector shrouds and electrically connects with a male plug connector. The electrodes may be electrically connected with a remote monitoring device via the male and female connectors. The male connector may extend within an opening in the leg plate or project from the leg plate and may be removable from the leg plate. The female socket connector has an outer dimension less than the inner dimension of a driving tube so that the driving tube can be pulled over the female socket connector after the fetal electrode has been attached to a fetus.

Fetal electrode product for use in monitoring fetal heart rate

A connector device interposed between a fetal heart rate monitor and fetal and material electrodes. The device includes a connector inserted in a leg plate. The leg plate has a housing which contains a printed circuit board. The board or housing is detachably connected to a base. The board has tracers which interconnect output terminals of the housing with input contacts of the housing and with a ground electrode of the base. The output terminals lead to the fetal heart rate monitor. The input contacts are in electrical contact with terminals of the connector, which in turn are electrically connected with the electrodes via a twisted wire pair. The input contacts of the leg plate are preferably in the form of barrel contacts which have fingers whose free ends either electrically connect with the connector terminals or engage with a recess on an exterior periphery of the connector.

A feed mechanism and method for feeding zigzag paper from either side of a zigzag paper pack. Zigzag paper is inserted into a paper retention pocket in a door pivoted to a housing. The door is then closed, causing the paper pack to stand upright vertically and an end of the paper to become positioned between a drive roller and a print head and between a drag spring and guide element. The drag spring biases against the guide element and is arranged above a base of the paper retention pocket over the zigzag paper pack. The drive roller pulls the paper between the drag spring and guide element and out of the pocket.

An improved ultrasonic mechanical sector scanning transducer assembly is disclosed. An ultrasonic transducer is disposed for movement within a generally tubular housing. A drive element extends longitudinally within the housing and is coupled for transmitting motion to the transducer. Power means produces oscillatory rotative movement of the drive element and transducer. A diaphragm seal, comprising a resilient tubular membrane, provides a liquid tight seal between longitudinally displaced interior sections of the housing. The tubular membrane has one relatively narrow end and flares along its length to a wider opposite end. The narrow end is bonded about the drive element. The wider end is affixed about the periphery of the housing. A coaxial cable is coupled to the transducer and extends to the exterior of the housing. The cable is wrapped within a spiral groove extending about the outer surface of a spool or reel mounted for movement in unison with the transducer.

In a device for recording information on strip chart paper, a paper tray, paper guide and door having a trench area are positioned relative to one another to inhibit lateral movement of the paper during recordal of the information. The trench area which is located between the paper storage tray and paper guide receives and traps the paper between its walls to ensure that the paper travels along a predetermined path. The paper storage tray is slightly tilted to further ensure that the paper follows the desired path of travel.

A sheet of film, for use in recording the results of non-invasive medical tests, is indexed relative to a lens and shutter assembly to permit the serial formation of multiple images on the film. The indexing is accomplished through the use of a transport mechanism which may be independently moved in two mutually transverse directions.

A beam of ultrasonic energy emitted from a stationary transducer is scanned through the use of a steerable mirror which is positioned in the path of the beam between the transducer and a target. The mounting means for the steerable mirror enables the beam of ultrasonic energy to be aimed as desired and the beam will preferably be scanned along a line and the scanning line may be shifted in a generally transverse direction to accomplish 'Multiple plane' scanning.
