A powder coating system particularly adapted for coating large objects such as automotive and other vehicle bodies comprises a spray booth having a manual/robotic spraying area for the application of powder to the inner door flanges and other hard to reach areas of the vehicle body using manually or rotatably operated powder dispensers, and an automatic spraying area wherein the remainder of the vehicle body is coated using automatically manipulated powder dispensers. A powder collection and recovery system is associated with the spray booth which includes removable cartridge filters arranged in V-shaped filter banks within powder collection chambers beneath the floor of the booth, a system for the transfer of powder collected in the powder collection chambers to hoppers located exteriorly of the booth and an air exhaust system for equalizing the negative pressure within clean air chambers which receive clean air after filtering by the cartridge filters.

Powder coating system

A mask for providing and protecting the shear edge of a mold from contact with oversprayed powder directed onto the wall of the mold cavity. The mask comprises an air flow duct having an opening located adjacent the shear edge of the mold. First and second air flow control members are adjustably mounted upon the duct adjacent the air flow opening. The first and second air flow control members have opposed edges spaced apart so as to define an air flow gap therebetween, which air flow gap is operable to direct an airstream from said duct onto the shear edge of the mold so as to effectively mask that shear edge from powder sprayed onto the cavity defining portion of the wall of the mold.

An apparatus for dislodging particulate powder material from the wall of a cartridge filter in the powder recovery unit of a powder spray system comprises a deflector plate mounted at the open top of the cartridge filter in the path of filtered air passing therethrough, and an air jet valve which directs a jet of air downwardly onto the deflector toward the open top of the cartridge filter so that the filtered air within the interior of the cartridge filter is pressurized and thereby reverses the direction of air flow through the filter wall to dislodge powder particles collected therefrom.

Apparatus for cleaning cartridge filters in a powder spray system

Apparatus for filtering air for a powder spray booth. A fan plenum is fixed in an elevated position and has a lower edge lying in an inclined plane. The filter module has an upper edge lying in an inclined plane and has an elastomeric compressible gasket around its edge. The filter module is mounted on wheels so that it can be rolled into edge-to-edge engagement with the plenum and clamped in that position.
