Production tubing extends through a well bore to a well producing formation, and after well fluid stops flowing through the tubing under reservoir pressure, the well fluid is hydraulically pumped to the surface through the existing tubing, which avoids pulling the tubing and replacing it with a separate tubing and bottom hole assembly. The existing tubing is perforated, and a conduit or passageway for fluid flow is landed in the tubing below the perforations. The conduit comprises a combination of elements which include a lower tubing stop affixed to the tubing below a packing mandrel sealed to the inside wall of the tubing, and a receptacle and check valve above the packing mandrel. An upper landing nipple already installed in the existing tubing provides means for landing equipment for perforating the tubing and for landing elements of the conduit. A free pump is pumped down the tubing, with an upper portion of the pump being seated on the upper landing nipple while a lower portion of the pump makes a sliding seal in the receptacle. The pump is operated to pump well fluid from the well up through the conduit and then out through the perforations in the tubing and up the annulus between the tubing and the well bore to the surface.

Hydraulic well pumping method

High pressure product fluid from a petroleum well goes into a high pressure separation vessel where preliminary phase separation of the constituents takes place. Oil and gas leave the preliminary separator by a flow line. Power fluid for a triplex pump flows from the high pressure separator into a separator tank that opens to atmosphere. Here, further separation of the phases takes place and power fluid low in abrasive solid content is taken off by a charging pump and fed to the triplex pump. The triplex pump increases the head of the power fluid and introduces it to the well. The power fluid may be either water or oil.

Oil well completion with high submergence jet pump

A system is provided for pumping high pressure power liquid for a downhole hydraulic pump for producing fluids from an oil well. The power liquid is mixed in the well with the produced well fluid and is conveyed to a phase separation vessel at the surface where gas, oil and water are gravity separated. Power liquid is withdrawn from this vessel to the inlet of a combined pitot pump and centrifugal cleaner. This combined pump and cleaner has a stationary housing and a rotatable cleaning chamber. A stationary pitot tube in the rotatable housing provides pressurized clean power liquid for the suction inlet of a high pressure multiplex piston pump that feeds power liquid to the downhole pump. The rotating chamber has passages at its periphery for discharging dirty liquid which drains from the housing and is pumped to a production flow line. Fluids from the phase separation vessel are also recovered through the production flow line. Also, means are provided for interrupting pumping in case of excessive or deficient flow of dirty liquid from the cleaner. Preferably the dirty liquid is pumped to the production flow line by a jet pump powered either by pressurized power liquid from the pitot tube outlet in a high pressure embodiment or by power liquid from the high pressure piston pump in a lower pressure embodiment.
