A quick connect coupling is disclosed for use with a tubular conduit having a radially outwardly extending bead adjacent a free end of the tubing. The coupling includes an elongated tubular and cylindrical housing having an axial passageway formed through it which forms a fluid passageway and is open at both ends. One end of the housing has a enlarged diameter internal bore portion adapted to axially receive the free end of the conduit including the conduit bead as the conduit is inserted to a magnet position. A retainer within the internal bore portion of the housing lockingly engages the conduit bead when the conduit is moved to its connected position while fluid seals engage the outer periphery of the conduit. A one way valve is also contained within the housing passageway which permits fluid flow in only one direction through the housing passageway.

Quick connect coupling

A quick connect coupling having a male part and a female part in which the female part includes a housing open at one end. The housing also forms a generally cylindrical internal chamber adjacent to and aligned with the open end of its housing. An annular and readily inwardly extending lip is also provided around the open end of the housing. A retainer constructed from an elongated band of a resilient material, such as spring steel is formed into a tubular cylindrical shape having a diameter at least as large as the diameter of the chamber. In addition, the band is dimensioned such that one end of the band overlies the other end of the band. A plurality of locking tabs is secured to and extend radially inwardly from the band. The retainer is radially inwardly compressible and insertable into the open end of the housing such that, after insertion, the retainer expands radially outwardly so that an outer end of the retainer is entrapped by the lip. The male part includes an elongated tube having an annular bead adjacent its one end. The end of the male part is insertable through the opening end of the female part and into the chamber such that the locking tabs engage an outwardly facing surface of the bead to thereby secure the male and female parts together.

Quick connect coupling with improved retainer

A quick connect coupling is disclosed of the type adapted for connection to a nipple having a radially inwardly extending recess formed at a position spaced from a free end of the nipple. The quick connect coupling includes a tubular and cylindrical body open at each end wherein one end of the body is dimensioned to slidably extend over the free end of the nipple to a connected position. The body includes a plurality of circumferentially spaced openings which are in alignment with the nipple recess when the coupling is moved to its connected position. A spherical retainer is disposed in each opening and is radially movable between a locked and an unlocked position. A tubular and cylindrical locking ring normally urges the retainers to their locked position. Each housing opening has at least one side wall which extends substantially perpendicular from a predetermined diameter of the body. This enables the body to be molded from a two-part mold without the necessity of insert molding.

Molded quick connect coupling

A quick connect fluid coupling is provided for use with a fuel tank having an outwardly extending tubular and cylindrical nipple and which the nipple has a radially inwardly extending recess at a position spaced from its outer end. The coupling includes a tubular and cylindrical body which is open at each end and which is dimensioned to slidably extend over the nipple to a connected position. The body includes a plurality of elongated and circumferentially spaced slots formed radially through the body and these slots register with the nipple recess when the body is in its connected position. An elongated arcuate retainer is positioned within each slot and is radially movable between an inner locked position in which a portion of the retainer is positioned in the nipple recess, and an outer unlocked position in which the retainers are positioned outside the nipple recess thereby allowing the body to move axially with respect to the fuel tank nipple. A tubular and cylindrical locking ring is positioned coaxially around the body and is movable between an extended and a retracted position. The locked ring includes an inner cam surface which radially moves the retainers from their unlocked position to their locked position as the locking ring is moved from its retracted to its extended position.

Quick connect coupling for a fuel tank

A fluid connector system comprising a housing having a fluid port; a cartridge permanently insertable in the fluid port; a conduit detachably insertable in the cartridge; the cartridge comprising a housing insertable in the fluid port and having an opening therethrough communicable with the fluid port, a first O-ring mounted thereon and disposable in sealing engagement with the housing, the cartridge housing being securable within the housing when the cartridge is inserted in the fluid port, a bushing and at least one O-ring disposed in the cartridge opening and disposable in sealing engagement with the conduit, and a retainer disposed in the opening and cooperable with the conduit for detachably securing the conduit in the cartridge in a coupling condition therewith when the conduit is inserted in the opening; and a release member mounted in the cartridge housing and cooperable with the retainer for releasing the conduit to allow it to be removed from the cartridge into an upcoupling condition.

Fluid connector with cartridge member and release mechanism

A fluid connector generally comprising a housing having a longitudinal opening therethrough having at least one transversely disposed bearing, a conduit insertable in the longitudinal housing opening in a coupling position, the coupling having a fluid passageway communicating with the longitudinal housing opening and an annular flange spaced from the transverse bearing surface when the conduit is in the coupling position, means providing a seal between the housing and inserted conduit, a retainer disposed in the longitudinal housing opening including at least two leg sections, each of said leg sections having a support leg portion extending rearwardly and outwardly from the annular section, a transversely deflectable retaining leg portion disposed between the conduit annular flange and the housing and forming a continuation of the support leg portion at a first reverse bend, the retaining leg extending forwardly and inwardly toward the opening of the annular section, whereupon the retaining leg extends radially inwardly toward the outer surface of the conduit forming a lip portion engageable with the annular flange portion of the conduit, and means for selectively deflecting the retainer leg portion transversely to permit the removal of the conduit from the housing.

Fluid connector

A fluid connector generally including a female housing, a male conduit insertable in the female housing in coupling relation therewith, a sealing assembly disposed between the housing and the inserted conduit, and a retainer for releasably retaining the conduit in the housing. A conical compression spring is provided in the housing for forcing the conduit out of the housing unless it is fully and properly inserted and maintained in position by the retainer.

A fluid connector generally comprising a housing having a longitudinal opening therethrough and at least one transverse opening therethrough intersecting with the longitudinal opening and providing at least one transversely disposed bearing surface, a conduit insertable in the longitudinal housing opening in a coupling position, the coupling having a fluid passageway communicating with the longitudinal housing opening and an annular flange spaced from the transverse bearing surface when the conduit is in the coupling position, means providing a seal between the housing and inserted conduit, a retainer disposed in the longitudinal housing opening including at least one leg section having a transversely deflectable retaining leg portion disposed between the annular flange portion of the conduit and the housing, the retaining leg portion having a pad portion engageable with the transverse bearing surface whereby upon application of fluid pressure to the connector tending to eject the conduit from the housing, the force exerted thereby is caused to be transmitted through the conduit annular flange, the retaining leg portion and the pad portion thereof to the housing and means for selectively deflecting the retainer leg portion transversely to permit the removal of the conduit from the housing.

A quick connect coupling assembly comprising a housing having an internal passage divided into a large entry end and a reduced diameter, coaxially aligned smaller passage for receiving a tubing adapted to fit into said passages and to snap into fluid-tight sealing relationship with said smaller passage. The assembly includes an improved retainer for preventing disconnection of the tubing and, optionally, a perforatable dust shield for sealing the entry passage of the housing during shipment and handling prior to insertion of a tubing conduit, and after perforation by the tubing upon assembly, then seals the tubing in the housing entry passage. A subassembly comprising the housing, retainer and dust shield is also disclosed.

A quick connect fluid coupling having a female part and a male part which is insertable into the female part to thereby establish the fluid connection between the coupling parts. A metal spring retainer in the female part engages an outwardly extending flange on the male part upon insertion into the female part to lock the coupling parts together. In addition, a shut off valve member is contained within the female part and is movable between a closed position and an open position. In the closed position, a seal ring in the female part sealingly engages a central cylindrical portion of the valve member and blocks fluid flow through the female part. Conversely, upon insertion of the male part into the female part, the male part moves the valve member to its open position and enables fluid flow through the fluid coupling parts. Simultaneously, the seal ring engages the outer periphery of the male part and fluidly seals the male and female parts together.
