Embodiments of the invention are directed to a caddy configured to receive medical implants coupled to respective holders. The medical implants and holders may be oriented and/or located in the caddy based on one or more of size, shape, and other configuration of the medical implants and holders and the openings in the caddy through which the medical implants are received. Another embodiment of the invention incudes a medical implant having an implant body portion and a detachable marking portion that is connected to the implant body portion by a frangible region structured to provide selective separation of the implant body portion from the detachable marking portion upon application of a force or torque to the implant body portion, and the detachable marking portion including one or more markings that correspond to identifying information associated with features or characteristics of the implant body portion.

Medical implant delivery system and method and an implant having a detachable marking section

A trial medical instrument for aligning an acetabular component, comprising: a first portion configured to fit within a patient's acetabulum; and a second portion extending from the first portion; wherein the second portion extends from the first portion in a direction that mimics a shape formed by a femoral implant component coupled with an acetabular implant component when a femur to which the femoral implant component is coupled is in a position relative to an acetabulum to which the acetabular implant component is coupled that is near an extent of a typical range of motion of the femur. As used herein, the phrase 'extent of a typical range of motion' describes typical angular displacements of a femur as usually limited by patient anatomy.

Acetabular implant alignment devices and methods

Embodiments of the invention are directed to a caddy configured to receive medical implants coupled to respective holders. An alignment guide for aligning instrumentation along a proximal femur includes a neck portion configured to wrap around a portion of the neck of the femur, a head underside portion configured to abut a disto-lateral portion of the femoral head and a medial head portion configured to overlie a medial portion of the head. Portions of the guide can have an inner surface generally a negative of the femoral bone of a specific patient that the guide overlies; such surfaces can be formed using data obtained from the specific patient. The neck portion can be configured to rotationally stabilize the guide by abutting and generating a first gripping force on the neck. The femoral head portions can be configured to grip the head portion of the femur and can support a bore guide that is configured to guide an instrument to the femur in a specified location and along a given axis.

Patient specific alignment guide for a proximal femur

A partial rim implant for an acetabulum in a pelvic bone comprises a ridge, a bearing surface, and a fixation surface. The ridge is oriented to replace a labrum. The bearing surface is configured to align with the articulating surface of the acetabulum. The bearing surface extends from the ridge toward the apex of the acetabulum. The fixation surface is configured to fix the implant to a prepared bone surface of the pelvic bone.

Methods and apparatus for FAI surgeries

Systems, devices, and methods are provided for aligning acetabular implants. A patient-matched acetabular alignment tool is used to orient tools and implants intraoperatively. The patient-matched acetabular alignment tool includes a mounting member and leg members which are configured based on the particular patient's anatomic landmark sites (e.g., acetabular bony landmarks). The leg members are attached to the mounting member and configured to connect with a respective anatomic landmark site to achieve a desired implant angle and axis. For example, the leg members may form a tripod support base through which an acetabular shell may be inserted into the patient's acetabulum at desired angles of version and inclination. In some embodiments, the leg members may be retractable and expandable with respect to the mounting member, thereby providing a tool with reduced profile for inserting the device in the patient's soft tissue.

Patient-matched acetabular alignment tool

Implants, surgical methods, and instrumentation for treating femoroacetabular impingement. In some embodiments, implants are provided or formed on the acetabulum to replicate the anatomy of the acetabulum (e.g., the acetabular rim and/or labrum, the bearing surface in the acetabulum, cartilage in the acetabulum, etc.). Also provided are embodiments of materials and instruments for use in installing and/or forming such implants on the acetabulum. Further provided are embodiments of guide jigs for use in preparing the acetabulum to receive such implants.

Implants, surgical methods, and instrumentation for use in femoroacetabular impingement surgeries

Orthopaedic implants, orthopaedic implant sets, and/or methods for making the same. Aspects and embodiments of the present invention may include orthopaedic implants having an elongated insertion region including proximal, distal, and transition portions, wherein at least portions of at least one face each of the proximal and transition portions are defined by spaced apart constant radii of curvature. The same or other aspects and embodiments may include sets of orthopaedic implants in which proximal portions of the implants grow at different rates than distal portions of the implants. The same or other aspects and embodiments may include methods for making implants and/or sets of implants by studying the geometries of differently sized bony anatomies.

Femoral hip stem implants

Methods and devices for performing hip replacement surgery are described. According to one embodiment, a method comprising providing an incision locator, the incision locator comprising at least one location indicator and at least one incision indicator, the location indicator configured to align with a central axis of the femur, and the incision indicator configured to guide a proper placement of a surgical incision when the location indicator is aligned, aligning the location indicator with at least one anatomical feature of the patient, making an incision in the proper location as guided by the incision indicator, and completing the surgical procedure is described.

Hip replacement incision locator

A reamer especially well suited for use in minimally invasive hip replacement arthroplasty. The reamer is for preparation of a requisite concave surface in the patient's acetabulum suitable for the acetabular cup member of a hip prosthesis. The reamer comprises a plurality of raised edges, or cutting teeth, for cutting bone and cartilage, and a plurality of openings through which cut fragments of bone and cartilage enter the reamer body. The bone and cartilage fragments are contained within the reamer body and periodically removed so as not to contaminate the surgical site. The reamer according to certain aspects and embodiments of the present invention is easier to insert and withdraw though a minimally invasive incision in the patients body, and, also, effectively restricts bone fragments from escaping into the surgical wound. The improved reamer according to certain aspects and embodiments of the present invention is not limited to use in minimally invasive surgery.

Acetabular reamer

Methods and devices for performing hip replacement surgery are described. According to one embodiment, a method comprising providing an incision locator comprising a first wing and a second wing, the first wing adapted to be oriented generally along the femoral axis of a femur forming the hip on which the surgery is being conducted, positioning a proximal portion of the first wing adjacent to the greater trochanter, positioning other portions of first wing generally parallel to the femoral axis, indicating a proper placement of an incision based at least in part on the position of the second wing of the incision locator, performing an incision using at least one incision guide in at least one of the first and second wings, and completing the surgical procedure is described.
