A system for implanting a catheter in a urethra. The system includes a catheter having a valve disposed at a distal portion of the catheter. The valve may be operable in response to an external magnetic field. The system also includes a tool having a tip member extending into an opening at the distal portion of the catheter to couple the tool to the catheter. the system also includes an element extending from the tool. The catheter has an internal path that provides a conduit for the element to be extended through the valve to engage a proximal portion of the catheter. The tool is adapted use the element to stress the catheter and stiffen the catheter along the length of the catheter. Stiffening the catheter facilitates implantation of the catheter in the urethra by enabling pull forces, push forces, and torque forces to be transmitted from the tool through the catheter to the proximal portion of the catheter without undue stress on the urethra. The element is extendible and retractable to position the catheter between stressed and relaxed states while maintaining engagement to the catheter proximal portion. The tool, element and tip member are removable from the catheter after implantation of the catheter in the urethra.

System and method for implanting a catheter

A system and method for converting fingerprint cards into electronic files is provided having a computer system for inputting biographical information from each of the cards into memory of, or accessible by, the computer, and encoding the biographical information into a barcode which is printed by a printer on a label for affixing to the card. A scanner is operated for scanning each of the cards having the affixed label associated with the card. For each scanned image of a card, the computer system or another computer system decodes the biographical information from the barcode in the scanned image, segments fingerprint images of the fingerprints of different types of fingers at locations in the scanned image, and stores at least the decoded biographical information and the fingerprint images in an electronic fingerprint file for the card and/or a record in a database.

A restraint system for a transportation vehicle may comprise a restraint member movably mounted to the vehicle. The restraint member may have a first leg and a second leg that travel together along opposite sides of a seat carried by the vehicle as the restraint member moves relative to the vehicle. A restraint harness may include a retractor that may be mounted to one of the first and second legs, and a lap web having one end mounted within the first retractor and an opposite end mounted to the other of the first and second legs. The lap web may be configured to restrain an occupant of the seat when the restraint member is moved to an occupant restraint position. At least one lock may be mounted to the vehicle and configured to secure the restraint member to the vehicle when the restraint member is in the occupant restraint position.

An instrument organizer for at least partially supporting one or more surgical instruments includes a base structure having opposed terminal ends and at least one end post fixedly positioned at one terminal end of the base structure. The instrument organizer also includes at least one movable stabilizing structure that is mountable on the base structure at a location spaced from the end post, to thereby stabilize and at least partially support the one or more instruments. At least one of the base structure and the movable stabilizing structure may include a radiopaque material. Also, the end post may include a generally triangular shape in cross section and a coupling device for coupling multiple instrument organizers together. The present invention is directed to an absorbent liner for use in a sterilization process and, more particularly, to an absorbent liner for cushioning surgical instruments and sterilization packs and providing an advantageous moisture absorption functionality during and after completion of a sterilization process. The absorbent liner functions advantageously with steam or ethylene oxide gas as the sterilization agent. The absorbent liner is fabricated from a material having a desired level of moisture absorption, e.g., on the order of at least about thirty percent (30%) by dry weight, and is preferably fabricated from a hydrophilic polymeric foam material, e.g., a hydrophilic polyurethane foam. The disclosed absorbent liner may be advantageously utilized in sterilizing surgical instruments and in conjunction with sterilization carts such that potential residual moisture is eliminated from the surface of the sterilized surgical instruments and the shelves of the sterilization carts.

The present invention is directed to a super-absorbent trayliner for use in a sterilization process and, more particularly, to a super-absorbent trayliner for cushioning surgical instruments and providing an advantageous moisture absorption functionality during and after completion of a sterilization process. Super-absorbent instrument trayliner for sterilization process and method of sterilizing surgical instruments

A method for sterilizing an article in a sterilization unit, the method including placing the article within a foam plastic instrument pouch having a closed cell construction, and positioning the closed cell foam plastic instrument pouch containing the article within the sterilization unit. The sterilization unit is then operated such that the article within the instrument pouch is sterilized, whereby the instrument pouch containing the article is removed from the sterilization unit. An instrument pouch for containing and protecting an article during sterilization is also provided. The pouch includes a foam plastic backing sheet for lining a base of a tray, the base having a multiplicity of holes, and a foam plastic pocket secured to the backing sheet such that at least a portion of an article can be received between the pocket and the backing sheet. The pouch has a multiplicity of holes arranged such that at least a portion of the holes of the pouch will be generally aligned with at least a portion of the holes of the base of the tray. A roll of individually-severeable foam plastic trayliners is additionally provided. Each trayliner is for lining a tray including a base having a multiplicity of holes, and the trayliners each have a multiplicity of holes arranged such that at least a portion of the holes of the trayliner will be generally aligned with at least a portion of the multiplicity of holes of the base of the tray.

Instrument pouch for sterilization process and method of sterilizing an article

A movable stabilizing structure for use with an instrument organizer including an elongated base having a uniform, predetermined width and fixed posts extending upwardly from the base. The movable stabilizing structure includes two gripping legs with opposing, inwardly facing surfaces spaced-apart a distance substantially equal to the predetermined width of the base of the organizer, so that the opposing, inwardly facing surfaces of the two gripping legs will grip opposite sides of the base of the organizer so that the movable stabilizing structure can be attached to the base at any point between the fixed posts of the organizer and held in place by the gripping legs to help maintain instruments in an organized and upright state on the organizer.

A trayliner for cushioning an article contained in a tray during a sterilization process, the tray including a base having a multiplicity of holes. The trayliner has a multiplicity of holes arranged such that at least a portion of the holes of the trayliner will be generally aligned with at least a portion of the holes of the base of the tray when the trayliner is positioned on the base of the tray. A method of sterilizing an article is also provided and includes positioning a closed cell polyethylene foam plastic trayliner having a multiplicity of holes into a tray, and positioning the article onto the trayliner. The tray containing the trayliner and the article is placed in a sterilization unit, and the sterilization unit is operated. According to one aspect, a base of the tray includes a multiplicity of holes. The method further includes arranging the multiplicity of holes of the trayliner such that at least a portion of the holes of the trayliner will be generally aligned with at least a portion of the multiplicity of holes of the base of the tray when the trayliner is positioned on the base of the tray, and positioning the foam plastic trayliner on the base of the tray such that at least a portion of the holes of the trayliner are generally aligned with at least a portion of the holes of the base.

Trayliner for sterilization process and method of sterilizing an article

An intraurethral magnetic valve for insertion in the human urethra of a person suffering from incontinence. The intraurethral magnetic valve includes a nonferromagnetic cylindrical housing, a valve seat assembly attached to one end of the housing, a spherical magnetic valve element disposed for universal movement in the housing, and a ring for retaining the valve element which is attached at the other end of the housing. The valve seat assembly has a nonferromagnetic valve seat sealing surface and ferromagnetic ring, each having concentric apertures for passage of fluid. The valve element is maintained in closed check position against the valve seat by attraction to the ferromagnetic ring, restricting the flow of fluid through the valve. An external magnet is used to impart magnetic torque and attraction to the valve element displacing it from the valve seat and opening the valve for fluid flow. On removal of the external magnet, the valve element returns to its closed check position on the valve seat. The intraurethral magnetic valve may further include a mechanism for relieving excessive fluid pressure at the end of the housing having the valve seat assembly, in which the valve seat assembly is axially slidable within the housing, rather than being attached to the housing. The mechanism has a spring disposed in the housing on the side of the valve seat assembly opposite the valve element, between another retaining ring and the valve seat assembly. The spring pushes the valve seat assembly against an annular flange attached to the housing. Under normal conditions, the valve seat assembly engages the annular flange. During excessive hydrostatic pressure, the pressure against the valve element and valve seat assembly compresses the spring to disengage the seat assembly from the annular flange and permit slow release of fluid through a passageway around the valve seat assembly until the excessive pressure is reduced.

An urethral magnet valve for insertion into the urethra of a person suffering from incontinence defines a binary duct relief valve comprising a nonferromagnetic tubular housing containing a valve member of a permanent magnet encapsulated within a nonmagnetic material, enabled on a valve seat of high magnetic permeability ferromagnetic nature, by a magnetic attraction therebetween. Retaining flanges integral with the housing prevent escape of the valve element when valve is open. A manually held external positioned permanent switching magnet induces magnetic torque and attraction on the valve element causing it to rotate within the tubular housing lifting same from the valve seat opening the passageway therethrough and through urethra.
