A lubricant scavenging system for a turbine engine having a pair of concentric, counter-rotating shafts. The system comprises a lubricant sump housing having a radially inner surface, a pair of pedestal mounts each adapted to receive a bearing assembly from a respective shaft, a lubricant collection point axially disposed between the pedestal mounts, and a pair of axial channels adapted to guide lubricant toward the lubricant collection point.

Lubrication scavenge system for a turbine engine with counter-rotating shafts

A bearing system includes bearing unit and a side-jet injector. The bearing unit includes an outer race, a plurality of internal rotating components, and an inner race. The side-jet injector includes an injector for delivering a lubrication source to the plurality of rotating components to withdraw heat generated and lubricate the bearing unit during operation of the bearing system.

Bearing for use in high speed application

A bearing assembly may comprise a housing, a slinger disk, and a bearing. The housing may be configured to receive a shaft and having at least one scavenge passage between an outer housing portion and an inner housing portion. The slinger disk may have a plurality of flow guides configured to direct the lubricant flow toward the at least one scavenge channel. The scavenge passage may be configured to provide a lubricant flow through the bearing. Lubricant flow may be provided in a forward direction, through the bearing and opposite a windage direction.

An air-inlet particle separator includes an outer wall, an inner wall, and a splitter. The splitter cooperates with the outer wall and the inner wall to separate particles entrained in an inlet flow moving through the air-inlet particle separator to provide a clean flow of air for a compressor section of a gas turbine engine.

A circumferential seal for a rotating machine having a ceramic runner and support system is provided. The circumferential seal may comprise a sealing runner having a radially inward facing surface and a mounting element. The mounting element may comprise a radial pilot, an axial flange, an isolating element, a spring element to provide an axially clamping force to the runner, and a support ring extending axially along a shaft a distance greater than the radially inward facing surface of the runner.

A sump assembly for use in a gas turbine engine includes a housing and a shaft assembly. The housing is arranged about a central axis of the sump assembly to define a cavity configured to house oil and high-pressure gasses. The shaft assembly is mounted to rotate about the central axis and to direct the high-pressure gasses into the housing.

A bearing system includes bearing unit and a lubrication system. The bearing unit includes an outer race, a plurality of internal rotating components, and an inner race. The lubrication system includes an injector for delivering a stream of lubrication to the plurality of rotating components to withdraw heat generated and lubricate the bearing unit during operation of the bearing system.

A flow splitter includes a stepped ring and a flow restriction. The stepped ring includes a first inner wall having a first diameter, a second inner wall having a second diameter less than the first diameter, a radial step that transitions from the first to the second inner wall, and a plurality of apertures circumferentially located along the first inner wall and partially through the radial step. The first flow restriction has at least a portion thereof at a position between the first diameter and the second diameter. Further, the first flow restriction directs a flow of at least one of a gas and a fluid towards the first inner wall, and is configured to split the flow into an exit flow and a secondary flow. The exit flow exits the stepped ring via the plurality of apertures and the secondary flow proceeds downstream directed by the second inner walls.

Labyrinth seal with tunable flow splitter

A lubrication system for a component is disclosed herein. The disclosed lubrication system can be applied relatively high temperature operating environments, relatively low temperature operating environments, or both. The lubrication system includes a tank operable to contain lubricant and having at least one tank outlet. The lubrication system also includes a tube extending between first and second ends. The first end of the tube is in fluid communication with at least one tank outlet. The lubrication system also includes an atomizer in fluid communication with the second end of the tube to receive lubricant from the tank. The atomizer is operable to dispense atomized lubricant on the component. The tank, the tube, and the atomizer are all adjacent to the component. A method for practicing the invention is also disclosed.
