A method of detecting urea-derived deposits in the exhaust line of an internal combustion engine having an SCR (selective catalyst reduction) aftertreatment system. A radio frequency (RF) transmitter is placed upstream of the SCR system's urea injector, and an RF receiver is placed downstream of the mixer. The transmitter and receiver are used to acquire baseline RF data representing a clean condition exhaust line without deposits. During subsequent operation of the engine, the transmitter and receiver are used to acquire subsequent RF data, which is compared to the baseline data after being corrected for temperature differences. If the comparison indicates the presence of one or more deposits, an alert signal is generated.

Urea deposit detection for use with SCR emissions control system

A method and system for treating exhaust emitted via an exhaust line from a diesel engine. A POC system is installed on the exhaust line, and has at least one diesel oxidation catalyst (DOC), a set of two or more particulate oxidation catalyst (POC) elements, a first differential pressure sensor (&#x394;P1) to measure the pressure difference across the first and all but the last POC elements, and a second differential pressure sensor (&#x394;P2) to measure pressure differences across the last POC element. During operation of the engine, &#x394;P1 is monitored to determine whether its POC elements require active regeneration, and &#x394;P2 is separately monitored to determine whether its (the last) POC element requires active regeneration.

Particulate oxidation catalyst with dual pressure-drop sensors

An exhaust gas emissions aftertreatment system for spark-ignition engines, which simultaneously reduces the particulate matter, HC, CO, and NOx content of the exhaust. Various embodiments of the system have both a closely-coupled TWC device, and an under-floor treatment device. The under-floor device has either TWC or NOx reduction functionality, depending on whether the engine is run under stiochiometric or lean burn operating conditions.

Systems and methods for controlling diesel engine emissions, including, for example, oxides of nitrogen emissions, particulate matter emissions, and the like. The emission control system according to this invention is provided in the exhaust passageway of a diesel engine and includes a catalyst-based particulate filter; and first and second lean NO trap systems coupled to the catalyst-based particulate filter. The first and second lean NO trap systems are arranged in a parallel flow configuration with each other. Each of the first and second lean NO trap systems include a carbon monoxide generating catalyst device, a sulfur trap device, a lean NO device, a supplemental fuel injector device, and a plurality of flow diverter devices.
