A seat base includes a plurality of linear actuators each having a first end pivotally mounted to a base member and a second end pivotally mounted to a seat member. A controller is adapted for controlling an extension length of each of the plurality of linear actuators in a coordinated manner for adjusting a position of the seat member with six degrees-of-freedom and for damping vibration of the seat member. An active vibration mitigation method for reducing vibrations of an aircraft seat includes receiving vibration data from one or more accelerometers mounted to the aircraft seat and determining a vibration profile based on the vibration data. When vibration mitigation is warranted, control signals for damping vibration are determined and transmitted to a plurality of linear actuators adapted to support the aircraft seat.

An aircraft includes a wing positioned below a vertical rotor, the wing extending in a transverse direction to a wingtip having an outboard face, and a turbulence feature located on the wingtip and oriented to induce turbulence in the rotor downwash flowing across the outboard face in a direction from a top surface of the wing to a bottom surface of the wing.

A system and process for bonding involves a pocket made into one article is used to secure that article to another using a flowable, curable material (e.g., resin) which during saturation enters through a passageway and at least partially fills the void. When the article is cured, the article is bonded to another article to which resin has also been applied since the void (now containing cured material) is larger than the passageway.

A composite core with non-traditional geometries includes multiple elongate tubes arranged in a two-dimensional array. Each tube is made of a composite material. Each tube includes multiple curved sides. Each curved side inwardly curves toward a longitudinal axis passing through a geometric center of the tube to form a valley on an outer surface of the tube. An end of a first curved side connects to an end of a second curved side to form a crest on the outer surface of the tube. At least one crest formed on an outer surface of a first tube in the two-dimensional array contacts at least one valley formed on an outer surface of an adjacent second tube in the two-dimensional array.

A method of cutting a wafer of composite core from a bulk composite core including the steps of placing the bulk composite core in a container, the bulk composite core having a plurality of tube members; depositing a potting compound in contact with an outer surface of the bulk composite core; curing the potting compound; and after curing of the potting compound, cutting through each of the tube members. A method of cutting a wafer of composite core from a bulk composite core, the method comprising the steps of stabilizing the bulk composite core by wrapping an exterior of the bulk composite core with a composite wrap, the bulk composite core having a plurality of tube members; curing the composite wrap; and cutting through each of the tube members.

System and method of post-cure processing of composite core

A multi-rail galley includes a countertop on top of a first storage portion, and a second storage portion above the countertop. The countertop includes a first plurality of rails on a top surface that are configured for receiving at least one countertop insert. The second storage portion has a second plurality of rails beneath a bottom surface of the second storage portion and configured for receiving at least one hanging insert. A method of providing a customizable aircraft galley includes providing a countertop above a storage compartment, the countertop having a horizontal surface facing upwards with a plurality of rails disposed on top of the horizontal surface, installing a galley insert onto one of the plurality of rails via a matching slot in the galley insert, and removing the galley insert from one of the plurality of rails, enabling stowage of the galley insert.

An additive manufacturing method for improved core structure includes splitting a computational model into sequentially queued individual model segments based on a predetermined number of slices with a predetermined orientation, and building a part in layers applied sequentially to form a final part having a core portion supported with a custom in-fill pattern. An additive manufacturing system for providing an improved core structure supported by a custom in-fill pattern includes a controller having instructions for individual model segments based on slices of a solid model, and a 3D printer for sequentially printing individual model segments in adjacent layers. A 3D-printed part includes a first exterior surface separated by a gap from a second exterior surface, and an internal core structure within the gap for mechanically connecting the first exterior surface to the second exterior surface. The internal core structure includes a custom in-fill pattern of support members.

Additive manufacturing method for improved core structure

A method of cutting a wafer of composite core from a bulk composite core includes stabilizing the bulk composite core with a fixture, the bulk composite core having a plurality of tube members. The method also includes cutting through each of the tube members to create the wafer while the bulk composite core is stabilized by the fixture.

In the present disclosure, a method may include forming a three-dimensional composite fiber pre-form by three-dimensionally weaving a plurality of composite fibers. The composite fiber pre-form includes a plurality of open cells formed adjacent to and interlocked with each other, and a composite fiber forms at least a portion of a first side of a first open cell and at least a portion of a second side of a second open cell. The first open cell and the second open cell are adjacent to and interlocked with each other.

Fabricating composite core with woven composite fibers

A method of manufacturing a composite core can include: wrapping a mandrel in a mandrel wrapping process by securing a mandrel with a winding jig; orienting the composite material at a wrap angle to the mandrel; and depositing the composite material around a circumference of the mandrel. The method can further include assembling the wrapped mandrels in a tool and applying a pressure to the composite material during a curing cycle.
