A transportation refrigeration unit () to provide a flow of supply air to a selected space includes a compressor to compress a flow of refrigerant and an engine () powered by a flow of fuel and operably connected to the compressor to drive the compressor. An evaporator circulates the flow of refrigerant therethrough to cool the supply air and includes a substantially unitary evaporator housing () having a supply air inlet opening () and a supply air outlet opening (). An evaporator coil () is located in the evaporator housing, the flow of refrigerant circulating across the evaporator coil. An evaporator fan () is located in the evaporator housing to urge the supply airflow into the evaporator housing via the supply air inlet opening (), across the evaporator coil () and out of the evaporator housing through the supply air outlet opening (). The evaporator fan () can be located upstream or downstream of the evaporator coil ().

Transport refrigeration unit

A transportation refrigeration system is provided including a tractor cabin having an engine and an engine cooling system. A trailer is operably coupled to the tractor cabin. A transport refrigeration unit is configured to maintain a controller temperature environment of a portion of the trailer. The transport refrigeration unit is mounted to a front surface of the trailer adjacent the truck. A shield () is mounted to at least one of the tractor cabin, trailer, and transport refrigeration unit. The shield is configured to block an air flow path between an area () of discharge air from the engine cooling system and a condenser air inlet () of the transport refrigeration unit.

Heat and dust shield

An evaporator assembly includes a support housing for mounting to an internal compartment of a delivery truck or trailer. At least one evaporator coil mounts to the support housing along with at least one cooling fan. Electric heating strips are attached to the bottom of the evaporator coils to heat the compartment and defrost the evaporator coils. A plastic outer skin incorporates a drain pan to collect condensation and moisture dripping from the evaporator coils during the defrost cycle. A heat shield is attached between the heating strips and the plastic outer covering to prevent heat from damaging the plastic outer covering.

An enclosed container for storing temperature sensitive goods. The container has opposed side walls and end walls as well as a floor and a ceiling. First and second bulkheads are moveably mounted within the container for dividing the container into three separate compartments. Two end compartments are services by fixed heat exchanges for conditioning the air in the compartments. A center compartment is serviced by a movable heat exchanger. By repositioning the bulkheads and the movable heat exchanger the volume and thus the load carrying capacity of the compartments can be varied to accommodate different types of cargo and the temperature levels in the compartment independently maintained.

At least one evaporator coil mounts to the support housing along with at least one cooling fan. A plastic outer skin incorporates a drain pan to collect condensation and moisture dripping from the evaporator coils during the defrost cycle. The plastic outer covering includes thermal properties that eliminate the need for insulation required when using prior art aluminum coverings. End caps attached to each side of the outer covering include a drain tube. The plastic outer covering is formed in lengths from a plastic extrusion process and then cut to the required length for the evaporator assembly.
