An aerosol-generating device is provided, including: a housing defining a mouthpiece end, a distal end, a sidewall between the mouthpiece end and the distal end, and a chamber within the housing, the chamber being configured to receive a liquid container, the housing including a retainer configured to retain the liquid container within the housing, the retainer including a magnetic retention mechanism; and a power source disposed within the housing, the sidewall of the housing defining an insertion window through which the liquid container is positionable inside the chamber. An aerosol-generating system and a liquid container are also provided.

A cartridge for use with an aerosol-generating system has a housing defining a liquid containing volume. The housing includes a sidewall extending from a mouthpiece end to a power supply end. The housing includes a transparent region forming at least a portion of the sidewall. The housing includes a light source fixed to the sidewall. The light source is configured to transmit light into the liquid containing volume. The light source may be fixed to an inner surface of the sidewall, fixed to an outer surface of the sidewall, or form a portion or the sidewall.

A charging system () for an aerosol-generating device () includes a charging unit (). The charging unit includes a body () at least partially defining a receiving volume (). The receiving volume is sized to receive the elongate aerosol-generating device through an open top end in a plurality of orientations. A charging interface is coupled to the body and includes a biasing element and an electrical contact. The biasing element is configured to apply a force on the aerosol-generating device that causes an electrical contact of the aerosol-generating device to electrically engage the electrical contact of the charging interface when the aerosol-generating device rests on the charging unit.

The extinguisher includes an inner element extending between a first portion and an opposing second portion and having a longitudinal axis. The first portion includes a cavity sized to receive a solid heat source of an aerosol generating article. The cavity is accessible in the open position and surrounded by the outer shell in the covered position.
