The present disclosure concerns a method for determining an instant velocity of a user using a sensing device destined to be worn on an arm of the user and comprising a motion sensor for measuring a motion signal; the method comprising: measuring the motion signal and identifying when the user is performing a rhythmical activity; identifying when the user is walking or running; providing a relationship between the measured motion signal and corresponding motion features relating to a propulsive impulsion of a user's step; estimating a frequency of the user's step and a user-relative step length of the user using the motion features; and determining a user-relative instants velocity by combining the estimated step frequency and the estimated step length; the instant velocity being determined from the user-relative instant velocity using a calibration factor from the user-relative instant velocity using a calibration factor.

Method for determining an instant velocity of a user and for improving estimation of heart rate

To determine as precisely as possible the flow rate of a liquid flow inside a tube by means of minimal technical and especially minimal apparatus complexity the invention provides with a procedure and an apparatus to determine it. In this process the liquid is heated by means of an optical heating beam while the point of heating is shown through by an optical detection ray. The axis of the heating- and the detection beam coincide at least in the point of heating. The detection beam is absorbed via an array of detectors. In the apparatus the heating device which heats the interior area of a limited internal area of the liquid and the optical control unit of the laser beam are arranged that way that a measuring beam shines through the absolute heating point.

Method and apparatus to define the velocity of a flowing fluid

The invention regards a method for processing audio-signals whereby audio signals are captured at two spaced apart locations and subject to a transformation in the perceptual domain (Bar or Mel), whereupon: a) a (blind or supervised) source separation process is performed to give a first estimate of the wanted signal parts and the noise parts of the microphone signals and b) a coherence based separation process is performed to give a second estimate of the wanted signal parts and the noise parts of the microphone signals, and where further a sound field diffuseness detection is performed on the at least two signals, whereby further the sound field diffuseness detections is used to mix the output from the blind source separation and the coherence based separation process in order to achieve the best possible signal. The transfer functions calculated from the source separation are used to reconstruct a virtual stereophonic sound field in restore the spatial information about the source position in the enhanced signals.

Portable equipment including in combination a heart rate measuring device and a sound reproduction unit including means for supplying a signal representative of the sound reproduction and for supplying sound information to a sound transducer, wherein said measuring device and said sound transducer are mounted at least in part in an assembly adapted to be fixed to an ear of a wearer of the equipment and, wherein said sound reproduction unit includes means for optionally substituting for and/or superimposing on said signal representative of said sound reproduction a signal generated from signals from said measuring device and representative of said heart rate. The equipment can take the form of a walkman, for example, or a hearing aid for the hard of hearing.
