An electric motor assembly device includes a carrier member with a central passage that receives a rotor shaft with a commutator. Brushes secured onto flexible, brush holders urge the brushes towards the central passage into a contact position with the commutator. The carrier member has mechanical elements for restraining the brush holders in an assembly position for assembly where the brushes clear the central passage and are protected against impact by the carrier member. This arrangement allows the rotor shaft to be introduced into the central passage of the carrier member without a risk of damaging the brushes. The brush holders are easily released automatically from the mechanical elements on the electric motor assembly device to bring the brushes into the contact position.

Electric motor assembly device

An electric motor, in particular a motor and gear box unit for activating functional equipment in a vehicle, includes a rotor shaft () carrying a commutator () co-operating with conductive brushes () disposed in brush supports () fixed to a printed circuit card (); the motor is provided with means for enabling brush supports to be fixed to the printed circuit card solely by surface mounting. These means may comprise, for each brush (), a metal casing () containing the brush and having one wall () with at least one transverse tab () adapted to pass through the printed circuit card in order to position and hold the casing on the card and in order to provide an electrical connection. The invention enables brush-support devices to be fixed to the printed circuit card solely by surface mounting, thus making it pointless to perform an additional flow soldering operation as is required in the prior art.

Brush-holder for a carbon brush

An electric motor, in particular a motor and gear box unit for activating functional equipment in a vehicle, includes a rotor shaft carrying a commutator co-operating with conductive brushes disposed in brush supports fixed to a printed circuit card; the motor is provided with means for enabling brush supports to be fixed to the printed circuit card solely by surface mounting. These means may comprise, for each brush, a metal casing containing the brush and having one wall with at least one transverse tab adapted to pass through the printed circuit card in order to position and hold the casing on the card and in order to provide an electrical connection. The invention enables brush-support devices to be fixed to the printed circuit card solely by surface mounting, thus making it pointless to perform an additional flow soldering operation as is required in the prior art.

Brush holder for a carbon brush

A commutator includes a support ring and a plurality of conducting segments arranged over a circumference of the support ring. Some of the conducting segments have an electrically insulating portion. The commutator is employed with a device that measures rotation of an electric motor rotor shaft. The commutator is fitted onto the electric motor rotor shaft. A commutator housing includes at least three brushes and comes into contact with the conducting segments of the commutator. At least one of the brushes contacts the electrically insulating portions of the commutator segments to provide an electrical measurement that enables the speed, the direction of rotation and the angular position of the electric motor rotor shaft to be determined.
