Disclosed is a method that enables a smart card to exchange data with an apparatus, which is intended to supply the smart card with a permanent clock signal in a permanent mode of operation. The method according to the invention includes the steps of detecting, in the course of the permanent mode of operation, of an impending disappearance of the permanent clock signal, wherein the detecting step includes a comparison of the value of the amplitude of the permanent clock signal with a predetermined value; and substituting an auxiliary clock signal for the permanent clock signal. The invention enables the smart card to receive, after the disappearance of the permanent clock signal, a number of clock pulses which suffices for completing pending read/write operations.

Method enabling an exchange of data between a smart card and an apparatus

The invention relates to a data transmission device between two separate lines. This device comprises a real terminal (TRA, TRB) and a virtual terminal (TVA, TVB) associated with each of the lines. The state of a real terminal is that of the associated line. The state of a virtual terminal indicates whether the associated line is transmitting or able to receive a data. Each real terminal associated with a line controls the state of the virtual terminal associated with the other line by means of a control signal (COM), while said virtual terminal controls the state of its associated real terminal (CTRL), and accordingly of the line. A virtual terminal associated with a receiving line receives the control signal (COM) coming from the real terminal associated with the other line and inhibits (INH) the real terminal associated with this receiving line. The inhibited real terminal of the receiving line accordingly is no longer capable of sending a control signal (COM) as long as the other line is transmitting. According to the invention, two lines cannot transmit at the same time, while the switching of the transmission device is fast.

Bidirectional interface

A voltage regulator is disclosed which is connected to an external resistor. The voltage regulator provides a regulated voltage and includes first and second transistors. The first transistor has a power terminal connected to a power supply and the second transistor has an output terminal to output the regulated voltage. The second transistor is connected to the first transistor through a common terminal. The external resistive circuit is connected between the common terminal and the output terminal. An output current of the voltage regulator on the output terminal is equal to a sum of a first current passing through the resistive circuit and a second current passing through the second transistor. A control circuit is also provided which is connected to the input of the second transistor to turn on the second transistor for providing the second current when the first current exceeds a predetermined value. The voltage regulator also includes a comparison circuit which feeds back the regulated voltage to an input of the second transistor to regulate the regulated voltage.

Each management device Ga and Gb further comprises means for detecting on the line it is dedicated to, A or B, the presence of a data to be transmitted to the other line, B or A, respectively. Each management device, Ga or Gb further comprises means for controlling the disabling of the other management device, Gb or Ga, dedicated to the other line, B or A. Each management device Ga or Gb finally comprises defining means for defining for the monitoring device Cb or Ca the data it is to reproduce which has the potential of said other line B or A.

The invention provides a system for detecting the presence of an electrically conductive object, the system comprising a first and a second contact (C1 and C2) intended to be short-circuited by said object, and further comprising a control device for the electric potentials of the contacts. In accordance with the invention the control device comprises means for applying a given potential (Vref), referred to as the reference potential, to the second contact (C2) at a high impedance (Z) with respect to the resistance generated by the contact with the conductive object to be detected, and for supplying a signal (CP) indicating that the potential of the second contact (C2) is near the reference potential (Vref).
