The disclosure relates to a power grid, comprising a converting stage comprising a plurality of DC/DC converters. At least one of the DC/DC converters is a single-stage isolated DC/DC converter comprising a voltage control configured to control a voltage of the respective DC/DC converter. The DC/DC converters are connected in series and at least one of the plurality of converters of the converting stage is configured to provide a respective predetermined output voltage to a load.

Power grid

A method of providing power support to an electrical power grid is provided. The power support is provided by an arrangement including a synchronous machine connected to a converter, the converter in turn being connected to the electrical power grid. The method is performed in a control device controlling the arrangement and includes: receiving feedback from one or both of the electrical power grid and the synchronous machine, and controlling the converter such that power support is provided to or absorbed from the electrical power grid by means of the synchronous machine based on the received feedback. A control device, arrangement, computer program and computer program products are also provided.

Method of providing power support to an electrical power grid

The application discloses an arrangement of switches for a voltage source converter cell, the voltage source converter cell having two AC terminals, wherein the arrangement of switches forms a number of parallel series circuits (branches, current paths), wherein the switches in each of the series circuits paths are being controlled by external signals to alter a conductivity status of the switches between an 'ON'-state and an 'OFF'-state. The external signals are generated by one or more control units, and the two AC terminals are each connected to subsets of the series circuits of the switches. The control units comprises failure detection means, the failure detection means being adapted to determine a defective switch in the series circuits by predetermined conditions. The control units are further configured to output a control signal to alter a conductivity condition of each of the switches in the series circuits in such a manner, that a short circuit between the two AC terminals is created, if one of the switches is determined as being defective according to the predetermined conditions.

Unique systems, methods, techniques and apparatuses of a power collection system are disclosed herein. One exemplary embodiment is an MVDC collection system coupled to a utility grid including a collection bus, a plurality of branches coupled to the collection bus, and a branch controller. Each of the plurality of branches include a semiconductor switch coupled to the collection bus, and a DC/DC converter coupled to the semiconductor switch and an LVDC power source. The branch controller configured to determine a fault condition is occurring within the MVDC collection system, determine the location of the fault condition, and isolate the fault condition using at least one of the semiconductor switches and the DC/DC converters.

Medium voltage direct current power collection systems and methods

A method is disclosed for operating a converter circuit, in which controllable power semiconductor switches of the rectifier unit of a converter circuit are controlled by a rectifier switch signal and the controllable power semiconductor switches of the inverter unit of the converter circuit are controlled by an inverter switch signal. In order to reduce losses in the no-load state of the converter circuit, the rectifier switch signal is blocked in order to disconnect the controllable power semiconductor switches of the rectifier unit if defined conditions of the converter circuit are fulfilled.
