A curable liquid rubber composition including at least one liquid polyene component and at least one heat activated crosslinking agent. The liquid polyene component may be a single polyene or a blend of polyenes. In one embodiment, the liquid polyene component may contain on a molar basis, at least one monomer that results in at least 45 molar percent of C2-C13 pendant groups. In another embodiment, the liquid polyene component may contain on a molar basis at least one monomer that results in at least 20 molar percent of C2-C5 pendant groups, and at least one monomer that results in at least 7 molar percent of C6-C13 pendant groups. After curing, the liquid rubber composition may have a loss factor greater than 0.51, a maximum loss factor temperature greater than &#x2212;10&#xb0; C., and a swelling ratio in toluene from 40% to 170% by weight.

Polyenes for curable liquid rubber-based compositions

A curable low sulfur liquid rubber composition including at least one polymer which contains, in polymerized form, at least one monomer having a carbon chain of four and a peroxide system comprising at least one organic peroxide having a 10-hour decomposition half-life temperature of from 60&#xb0; C. to 100&#xb0; C. The polymer has a vinyl content of 1% to 90% and a number average molecular weight of 800 g/mol to 15,000 g/mol. The curable low sulfur liquid rubber composition has a sulfur content of 0 to 1%, by weight, and is curable at a temperature of 100&#xb0; C. to 140&#xb0; C.

The present invention relates to a masterbatch for use in a process of preparing a composite material comprising a blend of a first semi-crystalline polymer with at least 5 wt % carbon nanotubes. Good dispersion of the carbon nanotube is obtained within the masterbatch and evidenced by the blending of the masterbatch with a second semi-crystalline polymer miscible with the first one in respective proportions to obtain a composite material containing about 1 wt % of carbon nanotubes wherein said composite material yields an agglomerate area fraction U % lower than 2 and a surface resistivity lower than 10ohm/sq.

Masterbatches for preparing a composite material based on semi-crystalline polymer with enhanced conductivity properties, process and composite materials produced therefrom

A masterbatch for use in a process of preparing a composite material may contain a blend of a first amorphous polymer with carbon nanotubes. At least 5% by weight of carbon nanotubes may be present in the masterbatch, based on a total weight of the masterbatch. The masterbatch may exhibit a high load melt flow index HLMI1 of less than 40 g/10 min determined at 200&#xb0; C. under a load of 21.6 kg according to ISO1133. The first amorphous polymer may have a melt flow index MFI1 of at least 10 g/10 min determined at 200&#xb0; C. under a load of 5 kg according to ISO1133H.

Layer B can include a polyolefin and a polyester, or a co- or ter-polymer that includes an ethylene or a styrene monomer, an unsaturated anhydride-containing monomer, epoxide-containing monomer, or carboxylic acid-containing monomer, and a (meth)acrylic ester monomer.

Process to make a composition comprising a monovinylaromatic polymer and a polymer made from renewable resources

A composition can include polystyrene, modified-polystyrene, or a mixture thereof. The polystyrene, modified-polystyrene, or mixture thereof can include carbon nanotubes. The composition can also include a polyolefin. The composition can include at most 1.90% by weight of carbon nanotubes, based on a total weight of the composition. The composition can be prepared by providing a masterbatch including at least 5% by weight of carbon nanotubes based on a total weight of the masterbatch, and a polyolefin and/or styrenic copolymer. The masterbatch can be blended with polystyrene, modified-polystyrene, or a mixture thereof, and with a polyolefin, in amounts such that a conductive composition is obtained. An article can be made of the conductive composition.

Process for preparing a conductive composition using a masterbatch

A process to make a composition that includes a monovinylaromatic polymer and a dispersed phase of polymer made from renewable resources may include forming a polymerizable mixture. The polymerizable mixture may include a monomer or dimer dispersed in a monovinylaromatic monomer, and optionally a rubber dissolved in the monovinylaromatic monomer. The process may include contacting a catalyst with the polymerizable solution at conditions effective to produce a polymer dispersed in the monovinylaromatic monomer. The process may include polymerizing through a radical pathway the solution, optionally in the presence of a free radical initiator and a chain transfer agent, to obtain a monovinylaromatic polymer that includes a dispersed phase. The process may include degassing to separate unpolymerized monomers and comonomers, and recovering a composition of monovinylaromatic polymer.

Expandable vinyl aromatic polymers may contain comminuted graphite with a polymodal particle size distribution. Foams obtained from such expandable vinyl aromatic polymers have a reduced thermal conductivity at a reduced foam density.

Expandable vinyl aromatic polymers may contain comminuted needle petroleum coke with a polymodal particle size distribution. Foams obtained from such expandable vinyl aromatic polymers have a reduced thermal conductivity at a reduced foam density.

Expandable vinyl aromatic polymers

An expandable vinyl aromatic polymer may include a matrix of a vinyl aromatic polymer, 1-10% of an expanding agent, 0.1 to 5% talc, carbon black, and 0 to 20% fillers. The expanding agent may be englobed in the matrix. The talc may have a mean diameter above about 8 &#x3bc;m as measured by Laser Mastersizer according to standard ISO 13320-1. The BET of the talc may be in the range 0.5-25 m/g. The carbon black may be present in a proportion sufficient for a foamed material obtained from the expandable vinyl aromatic polymer to have a thermal conductivity &#x3bb; of about 34 mW/m&#xb0; K or lower. The fillers may be homogeneously distributed in the matrix.
