A battery module includes a housing that defines an inner volume and includes an airflow path from an aperture formed in a first end member of the housing, through the inner volume, to an aperture formed in a second end member of the housing; power cells mounted in the inner volume of the housing, where each of the power cells includes a vent member; and a barrier that at least partially interrupts a fluid pathway that extends between the vent members and at least one of the aperture formed in the first end member or the aperture formed in the second end member of the housing. The power cells are directionally mounted in the volume such that the vent members face an offset direction relative to at least one of the aperture formed in the first end member or the aperture formed in the second end member of the housing.

Methods, systems, and apparatus, for powering AC and DC loads in the event of a power failure. In one aspect, a system includes one or more DC loads that are powered by DC power, one or more AC loads that are powered by AC power, and an uninterruptible power supply (UPS). The UPS includes AC terminals connected to an AC power source and to the one or more AC loads to power the AC loads, DC terminals connected to a backup battery and to the one or more DC loads to power the DC loads a bidirectional AC/DC converter connected between the AC terminals and the DC terminals, and a controller that selectively switches the bidirectional AC/DC converter to the first mode when the AC power source is available and to the second mode when the AC power source is not available.

Systems and methods of monitoring and controlling a back-up power supply are provided. The back-up power supply can include an uninterruptible power supply system configured with a plurality of primary battery banks maintained in long-term storage and a working battery maintained in an operable state. The back-up power supply system can monitor the condition of a first working battery to determine if the condition is below a performance threshold or a capacity threshold. The uninterruptible power supply system can transition a primary battery bank previously maintained in long-term storage to an operable state and designate the transitioned primary battery as a second working battery. The uninterruptible power supply system can switch the source of power provided by the back-up power supply from the first working battery to the second working battery.

Energy management methods and systems based on financial impact are disclosed herein, wherein an energy management system at a site monitors metered energy consumption, establishes a peak consumption level, determines whether energy consumption will result in an increased peak consumption level, and if it will, calculates the financial value and costs of mitigating an increase in the peak consumption level, including an increase in demand charge prospectively avoided, and mitigates the peak in consumption to the peak consumption level using an energy storage system or other energy providing device if the value of mitigating the peak offsets the inherent costs. Embodiments may further use confidence factors or incremental changes to a peak consumption level to optimize the process and utilize energy devices to their greatest effectiveness.

In one aspect, a method includes monitoring respective phase power level in each phase of an alternating current multi-phase supply that provides power to a plurality of data center alternating current devices in a data center, comparing the respective phase power levels to phase distribution criteria that describe a target phase power level for each respective phase and determine, based on the comparison, a deviation of one or more of monitored phase power levels from the respective one or more target phase power levels and in response generate, for each of two or more data center alternating current devices, respective control signals to adjust the one or more adjustable phase power supplies in the data center alternating current device according to a determined adjustment for the data center alternating current device.
