Methods and devices are disclosed for receiving and detecting sparse data sequences using a message passing algorithm (MPA) with early propagation of belief messages. Such data sequences may be used in wireless communications systems supporting multiple access, such as sparse code multiple access (SCMA) systems. The determination and passing of one or more messages for an edge between a function node and a variable node in a factor graph representation of the system may be performed in serial with determined values available early for subsequent computations. The serial computations may be scheduled based on various factors.

Message passing algorithm decoder and methods

A network-wide interference cancellation scheme estimates channel impulse responses related to Self Interference and the Mutual Interference, then reduces both the Self Interference and the Mutual Interference in the receiver of an Full Duplex device. Full Duplex gains may be capitalized upon and translated into system gain. The scheme is based on an extended Multiple-Input-Multiple-Output (MIMO) treatment of the whole Full Duplex network. The network-wide interference cancellation may be seen to be feasible when a unique pilot signal design and training structure are in place network-wide.

Channel impulse response estimation for full-duplex communication networks

The complexity of sparse code multiple access (SCMA) decoding can be reduced by pruning codebooks to remove unlikely codewords prior to, or while, performing an iterative message passing algorithm (MPA). The pruned codebook is then used by to perform one or more iterations of MPA processing, thereby reducing the number codeword probabilities that are calculated for the corresponding SCMA layer. The pruned codebook also reduces the computational complexity of calculating codeword probabilities associated with other SCMA layers. The pruned codebook may be 'reset' by reinserting the pruned codewords into the codebook after a final hard-decision for a given set of received samples is made, so that the pruning does not affect evaluation of the next set of samples.
