The present invention relates to a delivery system for delivery of an active molecule to a patient, the delivery system comprising a population of exopolysaccharide micelles, each micelle defining a core for containing the active molecule.

The invention features a method for detecting an increased likelihood of hyperhomocysteinemia and, in turn, an increased or decreased likelihood of neural tube defects or cardiovascular disease. The invention also features therapeutic methods for reducing the risk of neural tube defects, colon cancers and related cancers. Also provided are the sequences of the human methionine synthase gene and protein and compounds and kits for performing the methods of the invention.

Provided herein is a heretofore unknown isolated nucleic acid molecule which encodes human methylenetetrahydrofolate reducatase, along with an amino acid sequence of methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase, and a cDNA probe for human methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase. Also provided are a molecule description of mutations in humans resulting in a phenotype having reduced levels of methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase, and methods of diagnosing methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase deficiency in a human.
