A reamer for use in minimally invasive hip replacement surgical approaches is provided. The reamer spindle includes an elongate housing portion that extends along a first axis and a neck or distal portion that extends along a second axis, wherein the second axis extends at an angle of between about 35 degrees and about 65 degrees relative to the first axis. A reamer head is removably connectable to the distal neck portion and has a surface configured to cut bone.

Angled reamer spindle for minimally invasive hip replacement surgery

A disposable reamer is provided, made up of a base and a thin-walled, perforated cutting body of flat metal stock affixed thereto. The base and body may be molded together or assembled together in a mechanical manner. The body is optionally formed so as to comprise a plurality of appendages connected at a center so as to improve die forming of the body into a final desired shape while at the same time minimizing stress-induced deformation in the body.

Disposable acetabular reamer from flat stock

An acetabular reamer (') for cutting a required cut shape is described. The reamer (&#x2032;) has a cutting shell (&#x2032;) having a series of doubly curved cutting teeth (&#x2032;) thereon of a quantity to substantially reduce a cutting pressure on each tooth as well as to reduce a size of a typical chip generated upon cutting. Substantially all of the teeth have a matched arc cutting edge (&#x2032;) of substantial length that has a cutting profile which substantially matches a profile of a shape to be cut. The apertures in which the cutting edges are formed have at least one straight edge () by which a punch, used in the process of forming the edge, may be oriented. Such a configuration reduces the number of teeth required to cut the shape.

Contoured reamer teeth and method of manufacture

An acetabular reamer () for cutting a required cut shape. A metal-encased passive radio-frequency transponder assembly includes a metal housing having an external surface and an opening accessing an interior space, the opening closeable with a metal cover to provide a solid metal encasement. The interior space of the encasement is defined by the interior walls of the housing and cover. The solid metal encasement has a substantially uniform wall thickness between the interior wall surface adjacent which an antenna assembly is disposed and the opposing external surface of less than about 0.5 mm. A passive radio-frequency transponder device is received within the interior space of the housing. The passive transponder device has an iron core antenna assembly. The antenna assembly is disposed adjacent the interior wall surface of the interior space and oriented to maximally couple a radio-frequency signal present at the interior wall surface to an antenna of the antenna assembly.

Intelligent implement having metal encased passive radio frequency transponder and examples of use

A surgical ratchet assembly includes a handle, a driver, a ratcheting mechanism and a locking mechanism. The driver is received within the handle in a rotatable relationship with respect thereto. The ratcheting mechanism is interposed between the handle and the driver. A locking mechanism releasably holds the handle to the ratchet mechanism. Unlocking of the locking mechanism enables ready disassembly of the assembly for cleaning and component sterilization.

An instrument holder () for surgical use has a remote locking mechanism () and is elongated having a proximal end () and a distal end (). The holder () has an elongated shank (), a ring (), a locking component () and a spring (). The elongated shank () is equipped, at the distal end (), with a head () adapted to receive an instrument (). The locking component () is substantially cylindrical, elongated and is biased in a first direction () toward the head () by a spring (). The locking component () includes structures () capable of locking the instrument () onto the distal end (). The ring () is biased by the spring () in a second direction () against the locking component () towards the proximal end () constrained to slide longitudinally on the shank (), at the proximal end. The remote locking mechanism () permits releasable connection to the shank () and is engaged by rotation of the ring () such that release of the ring from the shank allows the spring () and locking component () to slide freely off the shank in order to permit cleaning of the instrument holder.

Remote release instrument holder for surgical use

A surgical instrument holder has a shank having a coupling end, a handle attached to an opposite end of the shank, a coupling device, and a locking mechanism. The coupling end has an interface thereon for receiving an instrument. The locking mechanism has an annular locking component, a spring, a ring which slides on the shank, and a locking device. The annular locking component is mounted so as to slide along the shank. The locking device cooperates with the locking component so as to lock the instrument onto the interface. The spring biases the locking component in a locking direction and bears on the ring. The ring is disengageably lockable to the shank via a connection device so as to enable quick disassembly for cleaning and component sterilization.
