A wellbore reamer assembly positionable on a drill string in a wellbore includes a reamer body having an internal cavity and multiple radial openings, multiple cutting structures each positioned in one of the radial openings in the reamer body, and a fluid-activated expandable support element positioned in the internal cavity of the reamer body adjacent the cutting structures. The cutting structures are extendable radially away from a central longitudinal axis of the reamer body through respective radial openings and retractable toward the central longitudinal axis of the reamer body.

Wellbore tool reamer assembly

A downhole tool may include a generally hollow piston having a trigger element extending therefrom, the piston configured to slide along an axial cavity extending through a tubular body of the tool. The trigger element may move from a first position where the trigger engages a support on the body and the piston is fixed, to a second position where the trigger disengages and the piston is released. The tool may also include a generally tubular relief sleeve releasably coupled with the piston using a shear pin, while the trigger element is in the first position, and disposed between the trigger and an extension of the piston, to allow the sleeve to slide between the trigger and the extension after shearing of the pin. The piston, sleeve and pin may be configured to allow the sleeve to release from the piston in response to the shearing of the pin.

Device for actuating a bottom tool

In accordance with an embodiment of the present invention, a drilling tool includes a tubular body defining a longitudinal axial cavity extending therethrough and defining at least one cutter element recess. The drilling tool also includes a cutter element at least partially disposed within the at least one cutter element recess and includes at least first and second cutting arms at least substantially disposed within the cutter element recess in a retracted position. The first and second cutting arms are operable to move from the retracted position to an extended position in which the first and second cutting arms extend at least partially beyond a periphery of the tubular body. The first and second cutting arms and the tubular body enclose a space when the first and second cutting arms are in the extended position.

Reaming and stabilization tool and method for its use in a borehole

An underreaming tool may include a tubular body, a drive tube, at least one blade element ('the blade element'), at least one wedge element ('the wedge element'), and a stop mechanism. The drive tube may include at least one longitudinal groove (&#x201c;the longitudinal groove&#x201d;) axially disposed along a length of the drive tube. The wedge element may include a first side having at least one lateral projection (&#x201c;the lateral projection&#x201d;) configured to axially slide into the longitudinal groove to couple the wedge element to the drive tube. The stop mechanism comprises a threaded sleeve configured to screw onto the drive tube to lock the wedge element in the longitudinal groove once the lateral projection is slid into the longitudinal groove.

Method for assembling an underreaming tool

Provided is a drilling tool that includes a tubular body defining a longitudinal axial cavity extending therethrough. The tubular body also defines at least one radial guidance channel extending radially from the axial cavity through the tubular body. A cutter element is disposed in the at least one radial guidance channel and includes an internal surface inclined at an angle to a longitudinal axis of the tubular body. The drilling tool also includes a wedge element having an external surface configured to engage the internal surface of the cutter element and to direct the cutter element from a retracted position to an extended position as the wedge element moves from a first position to a second position.

An assembly for sidetracked drilling in a wall of a borehole previously drilled or cored in a formation includes a guide element and an expansible device fixed to the front end of the guide element operable to be selectively expanded by an actuation means. A sidetracking channel is formed in the guide element in alignment with an internal space, upstream of the expansible device in the direction of advance. A longitudinal cavity is formed in the guide element parallel to the longitudinal axis and arranged to allow passage from the internal space to the actuation means of the expansible device. Within the internal space of the guide element, an external tube of the core barrel includes a core bit fixed to the front end of the external tube and arranged to slide, after having been released, in the internal space and in the sidetracking channel and then progress to the formation.

One-step directional coring or drilling system

Method and device for deviated coring and/or drilling

A bore hole underreamer is provided having a hollow body with a longitudinal axis, which has an external wall, at least two cylindrical bores provided through the external wall and whose axes are transverse to the longitudinal axis. Each of the bores have a cylindrical widening arm for widening the hole, which is arranged in the bore like a hydraulic piston, so as to be able to slide therein between an active position and an inactive position. The underreamer has a locking member which can occupy a locking position in which this member locks the arms in their inactive position, and which, when it is released, can leave the locking position under a thrust from at least one of the arms subjected to the pressure capable of pushing the arm into its active position.
