A method is described for treating a subterranean formation penetrated by a wellbore including injecting into the formation a treatment fluid including a rheological modifier; at least one viscoelastic surfactant (VES) at a concentration of between about 0.1 and about 10 percent by weight; and a formation-dissolving agent selected from the group consisting of hydrochloric acid, formic acid, acetic acid, lactic acid, glycolic acid, sulfamic acid, malic acid, citric acid, tartaric acid, maleic acid, methylsulfamic acid, chloroacetic acid, aminopolycarboxylic acids, 3-hydroxypropionic acid, polyaminopolycarboxylic acids, salts thereof and mixtures of said acids and salts.

A system and method is provided that determines at least one bottomhole condition during flowback operations in a well that traverses a hydraulically fractured reservoir. The system and method measure fluid properties of fluids produced at a surface-location of the well during the flowback operations. A transient fluid flow simulator determines composition and properties of fluids in the well between the surface-location of the well and at least one bottomhole-location of the well based on the measured fluid properties. At least one bottomhole condition in the well is determined based on the composition and properties of fluids in the well between the surface-location and at least one bottomhole-location of the well.

System and method for determining bottomhole conditions during flowback operations of a shale reservoir

A method of performing a perforation operation is disclosed. The method involves generating a stress contrast distribution for each stage of a well based on drilling stress data and a stress log of the well, generating a stress association between the drilling stress data and the stress log, generating a new stress contrast distribution for each of the stages of a new well based on new wellsite data (new drilling stress data) and the stress association, generating a production forecast using the geometric completion (GC) design and a predicted production forecast based on the engineered completion (EC) design, comparing a cost of a new stress log of the new well with a change in revenue between the GC production forecast and the predicted production forecast, and selectively perforating the new well using either GC or EC design based on the comparing, whereby stress logging may be selectively performed.

The nanoparticles may be nanocellulose, rod-like nanoparticles, nanotubes or halloysite or combinations thereof. The water dispersible nanoparticles form one or more aggregates that plug formation pores and may control fluid flow into the formation as well as fluid flow from the formation into a wellbore.

The method involves generating a plurality of quality indicators from a plurality of logs, and combining the plurality of quality indicators to form a composite quality indicator. The plurality of stress blocks may then be merged using diversion criterion. The composite quality indicator may be combined with the merged stress blocks to form a combined stress and composite quality indicator, the combined stress and composite quality indicator comprising a plurality of blocks with boundaries therebetween. The method may further comprise defining stages along the combined stress and composite quality indicator based on the diverter-assisted stage classifications; and selectively positioning perforations in select stages based on the diverter-assisted stage classifications thereon.

System and method for performing downhole stimulation operations

Apparatus, systems, and methods in which a fracturing fluid source is in fluid communication with a wellbore extending into a subterranean formation. A compressor has an input in fluid communication with a natural gas source, and has an output in fluid communication with the wellbore. The compressor is operable to compress natural gas received at the input for delivery at the output. A liquefied gas source is also in fluid communication with the wellbore.

A delayed gelling system useful in conformance control in the production of petroleum from subterranean formations, especially low permeability formations, is disclosed. The gelling system comprises a basic silica sol, an activator comprising a hydroxyl donor, and an optional syneresis inhibitor. In the disclosed method of using the gelling system, the gelling system may be pumped into formations with excessive water and/or gas production and thermally activated in the formation at downhole conditions to form a hard gel to reduce water and/or gas production.
