An alkali-resistant pigment composition is provided comprising (a) a C.I. Pigment Yellow 139 and (b) an adduct containing a compound of formula (II) or a tautomeric form thereof, wherein X is O, S or NR; Y is O, S or NR; the group -A-B&#x2014; is selected from the group consisting of &#x2014;CR&#x2550;CR, &#x2014;CRR&#x2014;CRR, &#x2014;CY&#x2014;CRR, &#x2014;CX&#x2014;NR, &#x2014;CR&#x2550;N&#x2014;, &#x2014;CRRNRand Ris hydrogen, C-Calkyl, C-Ccycloalkyl, C-Caryl or C-Caralkyl; R, R, R, R, R, R, R, R, R, R, R, Rand Rare independently of each other hydrogen, halogen, C-Calkyl, C-Calkenyl, or C-Caryl, or Rand Rform a benzoannellated ring; and/or a melamine- or pyrimidine-based compound, which is optionally substituted. Pigment composition

A method for producing infra-red inert substrates, including molded polymeric articles, films, fibers and coatings and other organic and inorganic materials, by incorporating into the substrate or onto the surface of the substrate an effective amount of a dispersed bis-oxodihydroindolylen-benzodifuranone colorant. The thus obtained, also claimed substrates so produced are reflective and transparent to much of the near infra red radiation not reflected. There are multiple applications for cases of devices comprising electronic components, outdoor construction elements, outdoor furniture, automotive, marine or aerospace parts, laminates, artificial leather or textile materials, as well as in polychrome printing processes and optical fibers. The thus obtained substrates can also be subjected to laser welding. New bis-oxo-dihydroindolylen-benzodifuranone compounds are also claimed.

Disclosed is a composition comprising a charged particle of volume 5 nmto 50 million nmpreferably having an inorganic core of SiO, AIO, and/or TiO, or a core essentially consisting of an organic pigment and/or pigment derivative, and a counter ion which is separable from the particle and is not covalently linked to the particle, said counter ion comprising a silicon atom which is directly bound to a carbon atom. Preferably, said charged particle comprises a dye attached to said inorganic core and said counter ion comprises a (poly)siloxane moiety linked via suitable bridge members to a quaternary, positively charged, nitrogen or phosphorus atom, or to a moiety carrying an anionic functional group. Said composition may be used e.g. in the form of a homogenous dispersion in an electrophoretic display.

A pigment preparation is provided, said preparation comprises an organic pigment comprising a chromophore Qand a derivative thereof comprising specific organic substituents via an aliphatic carbon atom in an amount of from 0.1 to 30 mol, based on 100 mol of the organic pigment as well as a process for its preparation and to its use in coloring an organic material such as plastics, coatings or inks.

Surface-modified pigment preparations

The present invention relates to pigments, comprising a plate-like substrate of perlite which does not contain 3D twin structure particles contained in milled expanded perlite in an amount of greater than 5% by weight., and (a) a dielectric material, especially a metal oxide, having a high index of refraction; and/or (a) a metal layer, especially a thin semi-transparent metal layer; a process for their production and their use in paints, ink-jet printing, for dyeing textiles, for pigmenting coatings (paints), printing inks, plastics, cosmetics, glazes for ceramics and glass.

The invention relates to pearlescent pigments comprising a platelet-shaped substrate, a metal oxide coating comprising a metal oxide layer having a refractive index of greater than 1.8 and a protective layer, wherein the protective layer comprises a metal oxide/hydroxide layer and optionally boroxide, applied to which is an organic aftercoat of an acrylic copolymer, to a method for producing said pigments and the use thereof. The outer layer provides a very good photo-stabilisation of the TiOcoated platelet-shaped substrates, such as mica, combined with a good water resistance and an anti-yellowing performance.

The invention relates to an electrophoretic display, comprising electrodes and cells containing at least one kind of ionic, monochrome particles, a non-polar liquid and a dispersant, wherein the ionic, monochrome particles of at least one kind are essentially aggregates consisting of a carbon containing pigment and a cationic pigment orcationic pigment derivative, and the dispersantis selected from the group consisting of polyacrylates, polyesters, polyurethanes and copolymers, with the proviso that the cationic pigment or cationic pigment derivative is not a reaction product of carbonblack with diazotated procaine hydrochloride. In general, the whole quantity of the pigment and the main part, preferably at least 80%, most preferred from 95% to 100%, of the whole cationic pigment or cationic pigment derivative present within the cells is comprised in the aggregates, with essentially no pigment and only a minor part of the cationic pigment or cationic pigment derivative physically distinct from the aggregates.

Encapsulated dispersions comprising electrophoretically mobile organic colorants

The invention relates to an electrophoretic display, comprising electrodes and cells containing at least one kind of ionic, monochrome particles, a non-polar liquid and a dispersant, wherein the ionic, monochrome particles of at least one kind are essentially aggregates consisting of a carbon containing pigment and an anionic pigment or anionic pigment derivative, and the dispersant is selected from the group consisting of polyacrylates, polyesters, polyurethanes and copolymers. In general, the whole quantity of the pigment and the main part, preferably at least 80%, most preferred from 95% to 100%, of the whole anionic pigment or anionic pigment derivative present within the cells is comprised in the aggregates, with essentially no pigment and only a minor part of the anionic pigment or anionic pigment derivative physically distinct from the aggregates.

The present invention relates to a pigment preparation that comprises, as component (A), 2,4,5,7-tetraminopyrimido[5,4g]pteridine of formula (1), as component (B), a phosphate compound, and optionally, as component (C), further additives, to a process for the production thereof and to the use thereof for colouring high molecular weight organic material and in the production of printing colorants, printing pastes or printing inks.

The present invention relates to pigments whose particles have a length of from 2 &#x3bc;m to 5 mm, a width of from 2 &#x3bc;m to 2 mm and a thickness of from 50 nm to 1.5 &#x3bc;m and a ratio of length to thickness of at least 2:1, the particles having a core of a metallically reflecting material having two substantially parallel faces, the distance between which is the shortest axis of the core, comprising (a), optionally, on one parallel face of the core, an SiOlayer wherein 0.95&#x3c;y&#x2266;2.0, (b), on the SiOlayer, an SiOlayer wherein 0.03&#x3c;x&#x2266;0.95, and (c), on the SiOlayer, an SiOlayer wherein 0.95&#x3c;z&#x2266;2.0, to a method for the production thereof, and to the use thereof in paints, textiles, ink-jet printing, cosmetics, coating compositions, plastics, printing inks and in glazes for ceramics and glass. The pigments without an SiOlayer produce brilliant colours. The pigments with an SiOlayer are opaque and exhibit brilliant colours with a metallic appearance.

Optically variable pigments having an asymmetrical layer structure

The invention provides a composition comprising particles of an optionally halogenated phthalocynine (a); from 0.5 to 10% weight, preferably from 2 to 8% by weight, based on the optionally halogenated phthalocyanine (a), or a vinylic or acrylic polymer (b); and from 1 to 15% by weight, preferably from 3 to 10% by weight, based on the optionally halogenated phthalocyanine (a), of an optionally halogenated phthalocyanine (c) which is outside the particles of the optionally halogenated phthalocyanine (a) and is substituted by a group comprising at least 1 hetero atom selected from the group consisting of N, O, S and P and at least 3 carbon atoms. The instant compositions comprising three essential components are surprisingly warpfree in substrate such as partially crystalline plastics, especially those processed by injection moulding. Geometrically identical parts of different colours are obtained.

Warp-free pigment compositions comprising phthalocyanine pigments

Organic solid solution pigments are prepared and conditioned by treating a mixture of their components, after synthesis but preferably without or with only partial drying, in a mixture of from 0 to 30% by weight of an organic liquid having a dipole moment &#x3bc; of 2.8&#x2013;6.0&#xb7;10.esu (2.8 to 6.0 debye units) and from 70 to 100% by weight of water in an agitated media pearl mill having a specific power density of at most 2.0 kj&#xb7;sper liter of grinding space. Drying the starting components is especially suitable in the case of only slightly agglomerating, easy to wet pigments of specific surface area from 1 to 25 m/g. The method gives excellent results, and is flexible and also much simpler than known methods.
