The invention concerns a method of notifying control information to a congestion control mechanism in charge of controlling data segments sending rate of a server towards a client. The control information includes loss events where a loss event corresponds to one or more data segments lost. The method comprises a step of receiving data segments into a reception buffer at the client, a step of detecting loss events from the received data segments and a step of notifying the congestion control mechanism with a number of loss events that is dependent on the number of detected loss events and a measure of criticality related to the reception of the data segments by the client. The measure of criticality can be derived from the filling level of the reception buffer, the reception of data segments being in a critical state when the reception buffer is experiencing overflow or underflow conditions.

Client based congestion control mechanism

A method is proposed for setting up a communications path between a first communications sub-network and a second communications sub-network by means of an intermediate communications sub-network in an extended communications network. More specifically, to set up the communications path, said intermediate sub-network comprises at least two tunnel end-points and an input tunnel end-point of said intermediate sub-network which performs the following steps of: receiving, from a tunnel of said input tunnel end-point, a relay activation message to set up said path, said message referring to a local relay involving said input tunnel end-point; determining, from said relay activation message, an output tunnel end-point of said intermediate sub-network involved in the local relay; activating the local relay for a part of said path between said first sub-network and said second sub-network transmitting the relay activation message to said output tunnel end-point.

Method for setting up a communications path in an extended communications network, computer-readable storage medium and corresponding tunnel end-points

A method for managing frames in a global-area communications network comprises a plurality of sub-networks linked to one another by tunnels at the ends of which there are tunnel endpoints, at least one of the sub-networks comprising at least one source device connected to one of said tunnel endpoints through said sub-network. When a given tunnel endpoint receives from a local sub-network, to which said given tunnel endpoint is connected, a frame sent out by a source device in the global-area network, the given tunnel endpoint performs the following steps: obtaining, from said frame, an address of the source device; verifying that the obtained address is included in a first list of addresses comprising addresses associated with source devices connected to remote sub-network or sub-networks distinct from the local sub-network; and in the event of positive verification, discarding said frame.
