Methods and apparatuses for video coding and decoding are provided. The method of video encoding includes accessing a reconstructed block corresponding to a block in a picture of a video, determining at least one filter pattern based on a property of the block and filtering the reconstructed block according to the at least one filter pattern. The method of video decoding includes accessing a reconstructed block corresponding to a block in a picture of an encoded video, determining at least one filter pattern based on a property of the block and filtering the reconstructed block according to the at least one filter pattern. A bitstream formatted to include encoded data, a computer-readable storage medium and a computer program product are also described.

Method and apparatus for video encoding and decoding using pattern-based block filtering

Methods and apparatuses for video coding and decoding are provided. The method of video encoding includes determining a set of parameters for illumination compensation associated with a first motion compensated reference block of a block in a picture of a video based on a function of a set of samples of the first motion compensated reference block and a set of samples of a second motion compensated reference block of the block, processing a prediction of the block based on the set of parameters, the prediction being associated with the first motion compensated reference block and encoding the block based on the processed prediction. A bitstream formatted to include encoded data, a computer-readable storage medium and a computer program product are also described.

Method and apparatus for video encoding and decoding based on illumination compensation

Systems, methods, and instrumentalities are disclosed for performing local illumination compensation (LIC) with multiple linear models. In an example, a device, such as a video decoding device, or a video encoding device, may determine that sub-partition-based local illumination compensation (sub-LIC) is enabled for a current block. The device may divide the current block into a plurality of sub-partitions. The device may identify a plurality of templates associated with the plurality of sub-partitions. The device may derive a plurality of local illumination compensation (LIC) parameter sets associated with the plurality of sub-partitions based on the plurality of templates associated with the plurality of sub-partitions. The device may process (e.g., encode and/or decode) the current block based on the plurality of LIC parameter sets.

Local illumination compensation with multiple linear models

Methods and apparatuses for encoding/decoding a video are provided. A picture from a video is decoded from a bit-stream, the picture being encoded in the bitstream at a resolution that is lower than an original resolution of the picture. Decoding the picture further comprises up-sampling the decoded picture to the original resolution, and applying an adaptive filter to at least one component of the up-sampled decoded picture. According to some embodiments, the adaptive filter may be performed in-loop or out-of-loop of the decoding/encoding process.

Decoder side intra mode derivation (DIMD) capability is enhanced by using reference pixels that extend several rows above and several columns left of a current video block, and also includes pixels above and left of the current video block, as well as columns above and right and rows below and left of the current video block. The reference pixels are formed from surrounding reconstructed/previously encoded samples surrounding the current video block. The derivation of an intra prediction mode is determined from gradients determined from each of the reference pixels in a defined surrounding area. In one embodiment, the gradients are determined using horizontal and vertical filters. In a sub-embodiment, the filters do not extend beyond the defined surrounding area. In another embodiment, reassignment of an index indicative of the target intra prediction mode is performed.

In an encoding apparatus or a decoding apparatus, an encoding method or decoding method combines various coding tools with intra sub partitioning mode in which a coding unit is split in multiple sub partitions. At least one embodiment particularly aims at the selection of primary transforms among a set of multiple transforms for video encoding or decoding of intra sub block partitions. A method and apparatus to improve compression efficiency in a video compression scheme enables use of switchable interpolation filters. The interpolation filters are used on multiple partitions of video blocks, enabling better motion compensated prediction and improved video coding efficiency. In one embodiment, an interpolation filter index is derived for triangle partitions of a block from motion information candidate parameters, so that each unidirectional motion compensation can use a different value of interpolation filter index. In another embodiment, an interpolation filter index is a function of characteristics, such as shape or area, of video partitions.

At least a method and an apparatus are presented for efficiently encoding or decoding video. For example, an intra prediction of an image block using at least one neural network from a context comprising pixels surrounding the image block is determined and an information relative to a transform method to apply for decoding the image block is also determined. The transform method is adapted to the neural network intra prediction mode of the block to encode or decode. The information relative to the transform method is inferred from the at least one neural network used in intra prediction of the image block at the encoding and either signaled or also inferred at the decoding.

A method and apparatus to improve compression efficiency in a video compression scheme enables separate control of a local chroma quantization parameter. The control can be used to disable a local chroma quantization parameter.
