Continuous gas-phase polymerization process for preparing ethylene and propene homopolymers and copolymers, in which ethylene, propene or mixtures comprising ethylene or propene and C-C-&#x3b1;-monoolefins are polymerized in the polymerization zone of a gas-phase polymerization reactor at from 30 to 125&#xb0; C. and pressures of from 1 to 100 bar in the gas phase in a bed comprising finely divided polymer in the presence of a catalyst. To remove the heat of polymerization, the reactor gas is circulated and firstly passes through a cyclone after leaving the reactor. To prevent polymer deposits in the circulating gas system, a catalyst poison having a boiling point above the maximum temperature within the circulating gas system is fed into this circulating gas system at a position between the reactor and the cyclone.

Continuous gas-phase polymerization process

A continuous vapor-phase fluidized-bed process for the preparation of ethylene homopolymers and copolymers having a density of from 0.87 to 0.97 g/cmin which ethylene or mixtures of ethylene and C-Ca-monoolefins are (co)polymerized in the presence of a supported chromium catalyst in the polymerization zone of a vapor-phase fluidized-bed reactor under pressures ranging from 1 to 100 bar and at temperatures ranging from 30&#xb0; to 125&#xb0; C. in the vapor phase in an agitated bed of bulk material comprising particulate polymer, the resultant heat of polymerization is removed by cooling the recirculated reactor gas and the resulting (co)polymer is removed from the vapor-phase fluidized-bed reactor, wherein, for the preparation of a (co)polymer of a specific density d, the (co)polymerization is carried out at a temperature which is in a range restricted by an upper envelope defined by equation Iand a lower envelope defined by equation IIin which the variables have the following meanings:

Ethylene homopolymers and copolymers are prepared in a tube reactor at from 160&#xb0; C. to 350&#xb0; C. and pressures in the range from 500 to 5000 bar, with or without use of molar mass regulators, using a peroxide mixture comprising from 1 to 95 mol %, based on the total amount of the peroxide mixture, of at least one cyclic peroxide of the formula I,where the radicals R are identical or different and are selected from among alkyl groups and aryl groups, as polymerization initiator.

Method and apparatus for the continuous treatment of catalyst and catalyst support material

&agr;-Olefins are polymerized in the gas phase at from 30 to 150&deg; C. and a pressure of from 5 to 80 bar using a catalyst or a catalyst mixture containing as antistatic agent from 0.1 to 5% by weight of ZnO and/or anhydrous MgO, based on the total amount of the catalyst mixture, except for a process in which the catalyst mixture comprises a chromium catalyst and MgO-supported Ziegler catalyst which is modified with an alkene and with alkylaluminum hydride and also comprises free MgO and the total amount of the MgO is not less than 2% by weight of the catalyst mixture.

Method for polymerizing &agr;-olefins in a gaseous phase

In a continuous gas-phase polymerization process for preparing ethylene and propene homopolymers and copolymers, in which ethylene, propene or a mixture of ethylene or propene and C,-C,-&agr;-monoolefins is polymerized in the polymerization zone of a gas-phase polymerization reactor at from 30 to 125&deg; C. and a pressure of from 1 to 100 bar in the gas phase in a bed of finely divided polymer in the presence of a catalyst, where the reactor gas is circulated to remove the heat of polymerization, polymer deposits in the circulating gas line are prevented by metering a catalyst poison having a boiling point above the maximum temperature within the circulating gas line into this circulating gas line in at most such an amount that it does not significantly impair the productivity of the catalyst in the reactor.

Supported chromium catalysts are prepared by loading the support material with chromium compounds and calcining at from 400 to 1100.degree. C., and then treating the catalyst with a water-containing inert gas mixture.
