An inflatable vehicle occupant protection device includes a curtain airbag having an upper edge portion for securing to an interior of a vehicle for deployment between a side structure of the vehicle and a vehicle occupant. Indicia extends along the length of the curtain airbag for indicating twisting of the curtain airbag when the curtain airbag is rolled up along its length. The indicia includes a bar code printed on the airbag.

A method for manufacturing a one-piece woven air bag includes weaving yarns into a one-piece woven fabric air bag structure having single layer portions and two layer portions in which an inflatable volume is defined between the two layer portions and in which the single layer portions are non-inflatable portions that help define the shape and configuration of the inflatable volume. The step of weaving yarns is performed using a water-jet loom.

Gas bag blank and method of manufacturing a gas bag

A gas bag module comprises a gas bag with a gas bag wall having a front wall serving as an impact surface for an occupant, where, in an inflated state of said gas bag, the front wall has a centric orifice as a transition to an indentation. The indentation is formed by restraining a center section of the gas bag wall during inflation and preventing the center section from moving freely. The orifice is surrounded by a stabilizer defined by a closed ring in a region of the orifice and the stabilizer is a part separate from the gas bag wall.

A gas bag consists of an upper piece, a front piece and a rear piece, which each have a generally hexagonal shape with a first half and a second half. The first half of the upper piece is congruent with the second half of the rear piece and connected therewith along three outer edges thereof. The first half of the rear piece is congruent with the second half of the front piece and connected therewith along three outer edges thereof. The first half of the front piece is congruent with the second half of the upper piece and connected therewith along three outer edges thereof.

The invention relates to a method of producing a vehicle interior lining, especially a dashboard having a carrier part and, attached to the carrier part, a gas bag module containing a gas bag carrier and a gas bag that has a folded package section. The gas bag, together with its package section, is placed into a gas bag receptacle that is formed on the gas bag carrier and that has an outlet opening for the gas bag. The outlet opening is at least partially closed in the area of the package section by a rigid part. An outside surface of the carrier part is foam-encapsulated with a plastic layer in a state in which the gas bag module is connected to the carrier part. Moreover, the invention relates to a vehicle interior lining.

A machine for folding a side gas bag for a vehicle occupant restraint system comprises a guide channel in which a gas bag to be folded can be disposed, and first and second folding tongues. The folding tongues have teeth and the guide channel has a first side part and a second side part in each of which several recesses are provided. The teeth of the folding tongues are able to engage into the recesses.

Apparatus and method for folding a gas bag

A textile air bag material for a protective cushion in an pant restraint system is disclosed. The textile air bag material is composed of a fabric layer having two superimposed wall portions interwoven with each other at their peripheries. The wall portions have a first side with a surface area. On this side a continuous foil of an air-tight material is applied over the entire surface area. A gas bag for occupant protection in vehicles is provided in which the outflow of gases at the seams is largely prevented. At least one strip of sealing material extends along the seam. The sealing effect which exists by means of the sealing material strip prevents the gas from escaping in the areas of the seam holes, because these are closed by the sealing material.

An inflatable occupant protective cushion for use along an upper side area in vehicles between an A-column and an C-column, comprising at least two inflatable chambers connected to each other and spaced from each other in a lengthwise direction of the vehicle. The chambers include a front chamber that extends, when inflated, next to typical sitting positions of front occupants and a rear chamber that extends, when inflated, next to typical sitting positions of rear occupants, wherein the front and rear chambers have front and rear delineation lines that are curved in a manner to correspond to a perpendicular projection of the typical sitting positions onto the inflated cushion.

A gas bag protection device with a gas bag to which two opposing plies of fabric are assigned. The plies of fabric consist of warp and weft threads and are sectionwise connected to each other by integral interweaving so as to form at least one inflatable chamber. The plies of fabric are integrally interwoven in a portion by at least one of the warp and weft threads in such a manner that the at least one thread forms a sacrificial thread which bursts in a restraint situation.

Gas bag protection device

The invention relates to a gas bag having at least one chamber. The gas bag comprises at least two fabric layers arranged opposite one another and delimiting the at least one chamber which can be filled with gas. The fabric layers each form a surface area and consist of threads which comprise warp and weft threads. The gas bag further comprises at least one spacer which is joined to the fabric layers and, in an inflated state of the gas bag, limits a distance between the fabric layers. The spacer is made up of some of the threads which, related to the inflated state of the gas bag, depart from the surface area formed by their associated fabric layer and extend towards the opposite fabric layer to be joined to threads of the opposite fabric layer.
