A sensing device includes an aperture structure having an aperture and imaging optics configured to direct polychromatic light toward the aperture. The imaging optics separates the light according to spectral range longitudinally along a first axis The aperture substantially transmits a spectral range of the light and substantially blocks other spectral ranges of the light. An optical detector is arranged to receive the spectral range of the light that is transmitted through the aperture. The optical detector generate an electrical output that corresponds to a centroid of the spectral range of the light.

Methods and apparatus are described herein for fluorescent imaging of a retina using a head-mountable device. The retina is illuminated by a head-mountable device (HMD) with light at an excitation wavelength of a fluorophore in the retina and imaged by the HMD at an emission wavelength of the fluorophore. The direction of gaze of a user of the HMD could be determined from the retinal image. The pattern of vasculature in the retinal image could be used to identify the user of the HMD. Information in the retinal image could be used to determine the medical state of the user and diagnose disease states. Fluorescent agents can be introduced into the vasculature of the wearer of the HMD to facilitate these or other applications of fluorescent imaging of the retina using the HMD.

Retention devices and methods are provided for drug delivery. The device may include a housing configured for intraluminal deployment into a human or animal subject and at least one reservoir contained within the housing. The at least one reservoir may have an actuation end and a release end and contain at least one drug formulation. A plug may be contained within the at least one reservoir and be moveable from the actuation end toward the release end. The device may also include an actuation system operably connected to the actuation end of the at least one reservoir and configured to drive the at least one drug formulation from the reservoir. The device may also include at least one retention member affixed to the housing and movable between a non-stressed position, a deployment position, and a retention position for retaining the device in an intraluminal location in the subject.

Devices and methods for intraluminal retention and drug delivery

A display apparatus includes a transparent substrate having first and second sides, an array of LED micro-display panels, and an array of collimating reflectors. The LED micro-display panels are disposed within the transparent substrate between the first and second sides and oriented to emit sub-image portions of a display image towards the first side. The collimating reflectors are disposed within the transparent substrate between the first side and the array of LED micro-display panels. The collimating reflectors are aligned with the LED micro-display panels to reflect the sub-image portions back out the second side of the transparent substrate. The LED micro-display panels are offset from the collimating reflectors to expand the sub-image portions prior to reflection by the collimating reflectors.

A light emitting diode (LED) lighting device includes at least one LED assembly comprising a substrate and two or more LEDs configured to generate light spaced apart along the substrate. A cured structural coating is disposed on at least a portion of the LED assembly, wherein the cured structural coating is configured to maintain the LED assembly in a predetermined shape. The substrate of the LED assembly may comprise an elongated and/or flexible substrate.

A continuous flow projection lithography system to form microstructures using an optical array incorporated in a continuous coating process is provided. A mask is placed at a distance from the array. Each element of the array projects one image of the mask onto a substrate, effectively forming an array thereon. A coating process allows flows that can be used to define functional regions of particles or supporting layers that prevent adhesion of crosslinked polymers to surfaces.

A computing device is described that includes a display unit. The display unit includes an array of pixels defined by N rows and M columns and at least one row select unit configured to select one or more of the N rows. The display unit further includes a first column control unit configured to drive a first contiguous group of pixels from the array of pixels, and a second column control unit configured to drive a second contiguous group of pixels from the array of pixels.

Power conservation in always-on displays

A method of deploying floating photovoltaic ('PV') modules on water includes attaching first and second sections of a tensioning frame between a first group of mooring buoys. In a first embodiment, the first and second sections are adjoining sections attached to a common one of the mooring buoys and a plurality of PV modules are unrolled from positions adjacent to the first section of the tensioning frame and the PV modules are extended out from the first section. In a second embodiment, the PV modules are unrolled and extended out between two floating platforms. The PV modules are mechanically attached into a contiguous PV array. Third and fourth sections of the tensioning frame are attached between a second group of the mooring buoys to at least partially surround the PV array with the tensioning frame. Tension on the tensioning frame is adjusted to place the PV array under tension.

Deployment techniques of a floating photovoltaic power generation system

A mechanical method for producing micro-scale and nano-scale textures that facilitates, for example, the cost-effective production of nanostructures on large-scale substrates, e.g., during the large-scale production of thin-film solar cells. A 'scratcher' (multi-pointed abrasion mechanism) is maintained in a precise position relative to a target substrate such that micron-level features (protrusions) extending from the scratcher's base structure are precisely positioned to contact a surface material layer of the target substrate with a predetermined amount of force, and then moved relative to the substrate (e.g., by way of a conveying mechanism) while maintaining the pressing force such that the micron-level features define elongated parallel nano-scale grooves and/or form nano-scale ridges in the surface material layer (i.e., by mechanically displacing) portions of the surface material layer to form the nano-scale grooves/ridges).

A light emitting diode (LED) light bulb includes a base and at least one support structure coupled to the base. The support structure is formed into a shape that defines contours for a luminous surface and an open volume. The LED light bulb includes least one LED assembly comprising two or more electrically connected LEDs. The LED assembly is attached to and in physical contact with the support structure along a length of the support structure to form the luminous surface. The support structure has openings between neighboring segments of the LED assembly.

A system and method for visualization of fluid flow, includes a light emitting arrangement configured to emit a focused light, a fluid channel configured to hold a fluid including a carrier liquid and a stimuli responsive polymer, wherein the fluid flows though the fluid channel, and an image recording arrangement. The light emitting arrangement is positioned to emit the focused light into a selected area of the fluid channel to interact with the flowing stimuli responsive polymer within the selected area. This results in a phase change to a portion of the stimuli responsive polymer. The image recording arrangement is positioned to record an image the portion of the phase changed stimuli responsive polymer made visible by the phase change.

A replica 3D structure is fabricated inside a multi-layered mold by patterning each mold layer to define a void/opening that matches a corresponding cross section of the structure's peripheral surface, and filling the patterned opening of each layer with a structural material (i.e., before depositing a subsequent layer of mold material). The mold material (e.g., photoresist or another dissolvable sacrificial material) is blanket deposited (e.g., by slot-die, spray coating) and then patterned using a laser or a printed mask. Each layer of modeling material (e.g., polymer, ceramic or metal, or a combination thereof) is electro-plated or otherwise deposited on the previously formed modeling material layer. High vertical resolution is achieved by utilizing relatively thin mold layers. The mold layer deposition, patterning and modeling material deposition is repeated until the replica 3D structure is entirely formed inside the multi-layered mold, and then the mold is dissolved or otherwise removed.
