A method of mechanically securing a first object to a second object, wherein the first object has a thermoplastic material in a solid state, the second object has a generally flat sheet portion having a second object edge. A third object is provided and arranged to provide an assembly including the first, second and third objects, in which assembly the second object edge is in contact with the thermoplastic material. Mechanical vibration energy is coupled into the assembly by means of a vibrating tool until a flow portion of the thermoplastic material due to friction heat generated between the second object edge and the thermoplastic material becomes flowable and flows around the second object edge to at least partially embed the second object edge in the thermoplastic material and the third object is caused to be embedded at least partially in the thermoplastic material of the first object.

An aerosol-generating system is provided, including an aerosol-generating device having a heating chamber configured to heat an aerosol-forming substrate, the heating chamber including a first end having an opening, a second end having a base, and a side wall extending between the opening and the base; and a residue collector removably insertable into the heating chamber and positionable at or near the second end, the heating chamber further including a first side opening in the side wall and a second side opening in the side wall, opposite the first side opening, and the residue collector being insertable into the heating chamber and removable from the heating chamber through the first and the second side openings.

The system includes a housing with a proximal housing part and mounted therein, a transmitting piece possibly coupled to an energy source and a driver spring, a distal housing part releasably coupled to the proximal housing part, a permeable sleeve couplable to the distal housing part, and a thermoplastic element positionable in the permeable sleeve. The two housing parts, the transmitting piece, the driver spring and the permeable sleeve form a closed load frame in which the thermoplastic element is compressed between the transmitting piece and the permeable sleeve.

A cleaning tool for an aerosol-generating device is provided, the cleaning tool including an elongate body having a proximal end portion and a distal end portion, the distal end portion defining a recess configured to receive a heating element of an aerosol-generating device, the recess extending from an opening in a distal end face of the elongate body towards the proximal end portion of the elongate body, the distal end portion of the elongate body being provided with at least one protrusion inwardly projecting into the recess, and the elongate body further including a scraping surface at the distal end face of the elongate body.

Tool for cleaning an aerosol-generating device

A method of mechanically securing a first object including a thermoplastic material in a solid state to a second object with a generally flat sheet portion, with a perforation of the sheet portion, and with the sheet portion having an edge along the perforation is provided, wherein the first object is positioned relative to the second object so that the edge is in contact with the thermoplastic material and wherein mechanical vibration energy is coupled into the assembly including the first and second objects until a flow portion of the thermoplastic material due to friction heat generated between the edge and the thermoplastic material becomes flowable and flows around the edge to at least partially embed the edge in the thermoplastic material. After the mechanical vibration stops, the thermoplastic material is caused to re-solidify, whereby the re-solidified thermoplastic material at least partially embedding the edge anchors the first object in the second object.

Securing a second object to a first object

A reclosable cartridge assembly () for use in an aerosol-generating system comprises: a cartridge () extending longitudinally between end walls (); a housing () enclosing the cartridge () and comprising: an upstream portion with an end wall () comprising an opening (); and a downstream housing portion () with an end wall comprising an opening (). One of the housing portions () is rotatably fitted onto the cartridge (). One of the cartridge end walls () comprises a rupturable portion () separable from the remainder of the end wall to expose an opening () in the end wall. The rotatable housing portion () is adapted to engage the rupturable portion () such that, upon rotation from a storage position to a dispensing position, the housing portion () breaks off the rupturable portion () and exposes the opening () in the end wall. When the housing portion () is in the dispensing position, the opening () in the housing portion () is in fluid communication with the exposed opening () in the cartridge (). The housing portion () is further reversibly rotatable between the dispensing position and a closed position. When in the closed position, the end wall of the housing portion () obstructs the exposed opening () in the cartridge.

Activatable and reclosable cartridge assembly for an aerosol-generating system

There is provided a cartridge assembly () for use in an aerosol-generating system, the cartridge assembly comprising: a cartridge () comprising at least a first compartment () extending along a longitudinal axis, the first compartment comprising an aerosol-generating compound and being sealed at a first end by a first frangible barrier () extending in respective planes transverse to the longitudinal axis; and at least a first piercing member () configured to rupture the first frangible barrier (). The first piercing member () comprises: a first piercing body () having a cross-sectional surface area at least about 40 percent of a cross-sectional area of the at least one compartment (); and a first channel () extending parallel to the longitudinal axis of the cartridge through the first piercing body (), the first channel () having an inlet and an outlet. The first piercing member () is movable along the longitudinal axis from a first position to a second position, wherein, when the first piercing member () is in the first position, the first piercing body () is retracted from the plane of the first frangible barrier (); and wherein, when the first piercing member () is in the second position, the first piercing body () extends into the at least one compartment () through the plane of the first frangible barrier (), and the at least one compartment () is in fluid communication with the inlet and outlet of the first channel (). The at least one compartment () is sealed at an end opposite the first end by a second frangible barrier (), the cartridge assembly () further comprising a second piercing member () configured to rupture the second frangible barrier ().

A container for aerosol-generating articles is provided, including: a box portion formed from a single laminar blank; a lid portion formed from a same single laminar blank as the box portion; a plurality of aerosol-generating articles disposed within the box portion; and a removable laminar blank made from a same material as the single laminar blank, the removable laminar blank being disposed within and attached to the lid portion, the removable laminar blank including at least one longitudinal line of weakness, and the removable laminar blank being foldable along the at least one longitudinal line of weakness to form an elongate cleaning tool having a scraping surface at a distal end thereof.

The system includes a transmitting piece connected or connectable to an energy source for generating vibration energy, and a housing with an opening. The transmitting piece is arranged moveably within the housing, the opening being adapted to the transmitting piece for a distal portion of the transmitting piece to be able to protrude from the opening. The system also includes a driver being activatable for exerting a compression force on the transmitting piece, and a thermoplastic element arranged to be compressible between the transmitting piece and a counter element by the compression force. An adaptor for securing a second object includes an anchoring part and an adjustment part, wherein the anchoring part includes a distally facing anchoring surface and a proximally facing first control surface. The adjustment part has a distally facing second control surface positioned to abut against the first control surface. The anchoring part and the adjustment part define a common axis that is not perpendicular to the z direction, wherein the first control surface and possibly also the second control surface is/are helical with respect to the axis. Thereby a relative z position of the adjustment part with respect to the anchoring part is defined by the relative orientation of the adjustment part with respect to the common axis while the second control surface abuts against the first control surface.

Adaptor for securing objects to each other

An adaptor is secured to a first object. The adaptor includes an anchoring part and an adjustment part. The anchoring part includes a distally facing anchoring surface and a proximally facing first control surface. The adjustment part has a distally facing second control surface positioned to abut against the first control surface. The first control surface or the second control surface or both is/are helical. Thereby a relative z position of the adjustment part with respect to the anchoring part is defined by the relative orientation of the adjustment part with respect to the common axis while the second control surface abuts against the first control surface. This is used to adjust the z position of the adjustment part relative to the first object, in connection with the orientation of the adjustment part being defined and possibly fixed by the function of the adaptor/the adjustment part.
