A method for removing a guided wave noise in a time-domain may include recording one or more acoustic signals with one or more receivers at a first location, wherein the one or more acoustic signals are raw data. The method may further include determining a slowness range, estimating a downward guided wave noise by stacking the one or more acoustic signals based at least in part on a positive slowness, estimating an upward guided wave noise by stacking the one or more acoustic signals based at least in part on a negative slowness, and identifying a dominant direction of propagation. The method may further include identifying a slowness from a highest stacked amplitude for the dominant direction of propagation, estimating a downward guided wave noise with the slowness, estimating an upward guided wave noise with the slowness, and subtracting the downward guided wave noise and the upward guided wave noise.

Removing guided wave noise from recorded acoustic signals

An acoustic tool, system, and method for performing down-hole measurements. An encoded pulse sequence is transmitted from an acoustic tool. First reflections are received from the encoded pulse sequences. The first reflections from the encoded pulse sequence are identified from a number of reflections of the encoded pulse sequence. Measurements are performed utilizing the first reflections of the encoded pulse sequence. Other systems and methods are presented.

An example apparatus for downhole cement inspection may include a tool body and an acoustic transmitter coupled to the tool body. An acoustic receiver may be coupled to the tool body at a first distance from the acoustic transmitter. A first array of acoustic receivers may be coupled to and positioned around a circumference of the tool body at a second distance from the acoustic transmitter. The second distance may be greater than the first distance. The acoustic receiver may be one receiver of a second array of acoustic receivers coupled to and positioned around the circumference of the tool body at the first distance. The first distance may be approximately three feet and the second distance may be approximately five feet.

Acoustic anisotropy of downhole formations is determined using statistical analysis. During operation of a downhole system, acoustic slowness measurements are acquired around a borehole extending along a formation. Statistical analysis is performed on the acquired slowness measurements, whereby the maximum and minimum slownesses of the formation are determined.

In some embodiments, an apparatus and a system, as well as a method and an article, may operate to rotate a rotatable driving member having at least one driving lobe, and to periodically contact at least one cam on a unitary driven member with the at least one driving lobe during rotation of the rotatable driving member, to set the driven member in motion. This motion can be used to launch an acoustic wave along an axis substantially orthogonal to the axis of rotation of the driving member, where the driving member disposed completely within the driven member. The signature of the acoustic wave can be at least partially determined by the profile of the cam and the rotation rate of the driving member. Acoustic source apparatus, systems, and methods

In some embodiments, apparatus and systems, as well as methods, may operate to obtain hole azimuth data or inclination data associated with a chassis (e.g., comprising a measurement or logging tool) in a borehole using interpolated data or survey data, and to determine magnetic field orientation of the chassis using a portion of the hole azimuth data, a portion of the inclination data, relative bearing data, and Earth magnetic field orientation data by reconstructing at least a portion of borehole magnetic field data that is corrupt or missing.
