A blower assembly for advancing the flow of air in an air flow device at a selected one of a plurality of air flow rates. The blower assembly includes a blower housing defining a body thereof and a wall of the blower housing moveably secured to the body, a blower wheel rotatably mounted to the blower housing and a motor for rotating the blower wheel at a selected one of a plurality of rotational speeds. The blower assembly further includes a motion device secured to the body and to the wall. The motion device moves the wall relative to the body to a selected one of a plurality of distinct wall positions. The motor rotates the blower wheel at a selected one of a plurality of rotational speeds. A controller calculates an optimum wall position and rotational speed to provide for minimal energy usage rate.

Assembly blower and associated method

According to an embodiment of the invention, an electric machine is provided. The machine includes a support structure, a stator secured to the support structure, and a rotor rotatably secured to the support structure. The machine also includes a circuit board positioned at least partially within the support structure. The circuit board is adapted for controlling an electromagnetic field produced by the stator. The machine also includes a potting material in contact with a first surface of the circuit board and a harrier for at least partially containing the potting material.

A printed circuit board is provided. The printed circuit board includes a base having a top and a bottom. The top has a first circuit area, a second circuit area and a slotted area disposed between the first circuit area and the second circuit area. The slotted area includes a first row of a plurality of first slots, each first slot of the plurality of first slots has a first length and is separated from an adjacent first slot by a first space. The slotted area includes a second row of a plurality of second slots that is positioned parallel with respect to the first row. Each second slot of the plurality of second slots has a second length that is different than the first length and is separated from an adjacent second slot by a second space. The second space includes a different length than the first space.

Printed circuit board and methods of manufacturing the same

Protection of a motor controller from a transient voltage is described. A method for protecting a motor controller from a transient voltage includes providing an electromagnetic interference (EMI) filter having at least a first input terminal, a second input terminal, a first output terminal, and a second output terminal, the EMI filter configured to suppress electromagnetic interference. The method also includes coupling a first voltage clamping device and a second voltage clamping device in series between the first output terminal and the second output terminal. The method also includes coupling a spark gap device to a ground conductor and to a shared node between the first voltage clamping device and the second voltage clamping device.

Methods and systems for transient voltage protection

An electric motor includes a motor enclosure, a motor-bearing assembly, a motor control unit, a mid shield, and a bearing. The motor-bearing assembly is configured for placement within the motor enclosure and has a shaft extending therefrom. A portion of the motor control unit is configured for placement within the motor enclosure. The mid shield is configured for placement within the motor enclosure between the motor control unit and the motor-bearing assembly and further configured to engage the shaft. The bearing is configured to seat within the mid shield and provide at least a portion of the engagement between the shaft and the mid shield.

A motor is described that includes a motor enclosure, a motor winding assembly, a motor control unit, and a mid shield. The motor enclosure includes a plurality of protrusions into the motor enclosure in a substantially configuration around its perimeter and the motor winding assembly is configured for placement within the motor enclosure. A portion of the motor control unit is configured for placement within the motor enclosure and the mid shield is configured for placement within the motor enclosure between the motor control unit and the motor winding assembly where it engages the protrusions upon insertion into the enclosure.

Enclosure for an electric motor that incorporates a mid shield

A method for reducing a length of a motor is described. The method includes engaging a motor enclosure at a first end with a motor winding assembly, inserting a mid shield into the motor enclosure from a second end of the enclosure, and fastening the mid shield to the motor winding assembly. The method further includes engaging the second end of the motor enclosure with a motor control unit, at least a portion of the motor control unit within the motor enclosure, and fastening the motor control unit to the mid shield.

Electric motor that provides motor length reduction

A motor is described that includes a motor enclosure, a mid shield, and a motor control unit having a chassis and a plurality of components mounted on the chassis. The motor enclosure includes a plurality of protrusions extending into the motor enclosure. The mid shield is configured for placement within the motor enclosure and configured to engage the protrusions. The mid shield is configured with a plurality of open spaces. The chassis of the motor control unit is configured to engage an end of the motor enclosure and the motor control unit is configured such that at least a portion of the components extend into the motor enclosure and the spaces in the mid shield.

Motor control packaging for an electric motor

A motor is described that includes a motor enclosure, a motor-bearing assembly, a motor control unit, and a mid shield. The motor-bearing assembly is configured for placement within the motor enclosure, and a portion of the motor control unit is configured for placement within the motor enclosure. The mid shield is configured for placement within the motor enclosure between the motor control unit and the motor-bearing assembly. The mid shield is further configured to allow removal of the motor control unit without disturbance of the motor-bearing assembly.

Mid shield for an electric motor

A connector assembly configured to engage a motor connector having a plurality of contacts is described. The connector assembly includes a plurality of receptacle terminals and first and second housing portions each having channels formed therein for insertion of the receptacle. The channels include an end further including a slot formed therein where the channels are configured to engage respective sides of the receptacle terminals along their longitudinal axis. The slots define a rectangular opening for insertion of a respective tab terminal into each respective receptacle terminal. Each receptacle terminal includes a wire insulation engaging segment, a wire engaging segment, and a receptacle portion.

Connector assembly

A drive package for a dynamoelectric machine mounts a printed wire board in cantilever fashion from a wall of a drive package housing. Potting material in the housing provides mechanical support for the printed wire board away from the heat sink. Heat generating components on the first printed wire board have tubes of electrically insulating, thermally conductive material inserted over them and are clamped against the heat sink. The heat sink is mounted directly to the housing and is electrically grounded by the housing.
