The present invention relates to an isolated COP1 nucleic acid sequence from a maize plant and the isolated COP1 nucleic acid sequence is named as ZmCOP1. Engineered miRNA precursors for suppressing target gene expression in plants

The current invention relates to enhancing gene expression in a plant during abiotic stress. More specifically the invention relates to a promoter that could be used to drive the expression of structural genes or other DNA sequences. We disclose the sequence of the promoter and give examples showing the function of the promoter.

Plant regulatory sequences for selective control of gene expression

The present invention is in the field of plant biochemistry. More specifically the invention relates to nucleic acid sequences from plant cells, in particular, nucleic acid sequences from maize and soybean associated with the carbon assimilation pathway enzymes. The invention encompasses nucleic acid molecules that encode proteins and fragments of proteins. In addition, the invention also encompasses proteins and fragments of proteins so encoded and antibodies capable of binding these proteins or fragments. Sedoheptulose 1,7-bisphosphatase (SBPase) is an enzyme catalyzing the reaction converting sedoheptulose 1,7-bisphosphate into sedoheptulose 7-phosphate. This enzyme is located in the chloroplast in leaves and stems. Overexpression of SBPase in transgenic plants is provided to improve plant yield by increasing leaf starch biosynthetic ability in particular and sucrose production in general. Deregulated variants of the enzymes are also provided.
