An apparatus comprises: a triaxial antenna including orthogonal x, y, and z linearly polarized elements to convert RF energy to x, y, and z RF signals; converters to convert the x, y, and z RF signals to x, y, and z complex signals, respectively; a polarization generator to rotate x, y, and z axes of the x, y, and z complex signals angularly responsive to angle signals, apply x, y, and z complex weights to the x, y, and z complex signals to produce x, y, and z controlled complex signals, respectively, and sum the x, y, and z controlled complex signals into a combined signal, such that the x, y, and z complex weights apply a polarization to the RF energy as manifested in the combined signal, and the angle signals rotate a plane of the polarization relative to the x, y, and z axes, without moving the triaxial antenna.

Triaxial antenna reception and transmission

An apparatus comprises: a polarization generator to receive first and second signals, apply to the first and second signals two-dimensional (2D) complex weights to produce 2D weighted complex signals that represent a polarization having a plane of polarization referenced to three-dimensional (3D) orthogonal axes, operate on the 2D weighted complex signals to rotate the plane of polarization angularly with respect to the 3D orthogonal axes, and produce 3D controlled complex signals representing the polarization with the rotated plane of polarization; quadrature upconverter-modulators to modulate the 3D controlled complex signals, to produce 3D modulated radio frequency (RF) signals; and a triaxial antenna including orthogonal 3D linearly polarized elements to receive respective ones of the 3D modulated RF signals and collectively convert the 3D modulated RF signals to radiant RF energy that has the polarization with the rotated plane of polarization.

A method includes transmitting a digital code from a transmitter to a receiver. Information is transmitted via electromagnetic waves from the transmitter to the receiver. The transmission of the information includes transmitting a first portion of the information using electromagnetic waves with a first polarization in response to a first value of the digital code, and transmitting a second portion of the information using electromagnetic waves of a second polarization in response to a second value of the digital code. The first information may include a first navigational code and the second information may include a second navigational code.

Diversity polarization modulation

A method of demodulating a signal that is phase modulated to convey R chips having phase transitions between adjacent ones of the R chips to represent chip states, and an overlay symbol spanning the R chips, wherein R&#x3e;1, and wherein the phase transitions are rotated in a same direction according to an overlay symbol state, comprises: first processing the signal including: accumulating a respective phase of each chip into a respective first chip magnitude, to produce R first chip magnitudes; and accumulating the R first chip magnitudes to produce a first magnitude; second processing the signal including: accumulating a respective phase of each chip into a respective second chip magnitude, to produce R second chip magnitudes; and accumulating the R second chip magnitudes to produce a second magnitude; and determining the overlay symbol state based on the first magnitude and the second magnitude.

Detection of phase rotation modulation

A method of generating a phase modulated signal includes generating a sequence of phase modulated host symbols having continuous, antipodal phase transitions between adjacent ones of the host symbols representing different states, and generating a sequence of overlay symbols each spanning a respective set of the host symbols. The method further includes rotating the continuous, antipodal phase transitions between the adjacent ones of the host symbols in each set of the host symbols in a same rotation direction according to a symbol state of the respective overlay symbol spanning the set of the host symbols, and generating a phase modulated transmit signal that conveys the continuous, antipodal phase transitions rotated according to the symbol states of the overlay symbols. For M-ary PSK, the method further includes encoding both antipodal and non-antipodal host symbol phase shifts to carry the data of the overlay symbols.

Phase rotation watermarking for phase modulation

A technique for generating a phase modulated, constant envelope transmit signal having continuous phase transitions between adjacent symbols involves generating a stream of symbols having a sequence of symbol states and identifying antipodal phase transitions between adjacent symbols representing different states. The phase rotation polarity of the continuous phase transitions between adjacent symbols having antipodal phase transitions is controlled such that a phase rotation polarity pattern of the antipodal phase transitions in the stream of symbols is uncorrelated with the sequence of symbol states. The constant envelope transmit signal is then generated from the stream of symbols. The spectral profile of the constant envelope signal can be tailored by selection of the phase trajectory shape and the portion of the symbol over which the continuous phase transition occurs.

Bandwidth efficient continuous phase modulation

A hermetically sealed digital electronic camera that is designed to operate both on land and underwater to great depths, and method of making same. The present invention is a camera which is hermetically sealed by being totally encapsulated, preferably by being cast in plastic, with no seals, holes, joints, penetrating pins, wires or other objects. Wireless means are used for communicating information, electrical power and control signals. The invention is impervious to atmospheric contamination and absolutely incapable of leaking under water to great depths and pressures. In an alternate embodiment camera optics are not encapsulated but are immersed in water when the encapsulated digital camera is placed in water.

Sealed, waterproof digital electronic camera system and method of fabricating and communicating with same

A digital electronic camera is hermetically sealed in a housing, typically inexpensive clear plastic. Digital electrical signals for downloading image information from the camera are converted to radio or, more preferably, infrared optical signals. These signals are communicated through the radiation-transparent housing to an external radio transceiver or infrared adapter connected to a personal computer. The bi-directional pc-to-camera communication is typically completely opaque to the picture-capturing pc and to its operating software. Electrical operation of the digital camera's shutter circuit is through the sealed housing by manually moving a magnet relative to an internal sensor, typically a Hall-effect sensor or a reed switch. Recharging a power source&mdash;normally a battery&mdash;for the digital camera and all associated circuitry within the sealed housing transpires by inductively inducing an alternating current in an coil internal to the housing, with subsequent rectification and conditioning of this current. The entire housing may be filled with liquid, preferably mineral oil or ethyl alcohol, to permit usage of the digital electronic camera at great depth.
