This invention is directed to a method of processing at least one digital image of at least one photographic image and distributing at least one visual print produced from the at least one digital image. The method includes the steps of storing at least one digital image of at least one photographic image on at least one image server at a first location. Selective authorized access to the at least one digital image of the at least one photographic image from a second location is then facilitated. Orders are received for at least one visual print of the at least one photographic image from the second location. Based upon the orders, at least one visual image is produced from the stored digital image at the first location in response to the at least one order.

Method of processing a roll of exposed photographic film containing photographic images into corresponding digital images and then distributing visual prints produced from the digital images

This invention is directed to a method of processing at least one digital image of at least one photographic image and distributing at least one visual print produced from the at least one digital image. The method includes the steps of storing at least one digital image of at least one photographic image on at least one image server at a first location. Selective authorized access to the at least one digital image of the at least one photographic image from a second location is then facilitated. Orders are received for at least one visual print of the at least one photographic image from the second location. Based upon the orders at least one visual image is produced from the stored digital image at the first location in response to the at least one order.

Method of processing a roll of photographic film and distributing visual prints

The present invention is directed to a process for developing photographic film and distributing visual prints. The process includes the steps of receiving a roll of exposed photographic film from a photographer; developing the roll; scanning the negatives to produce digital images; assigning an authorization code to the digital images; uploading the digital images to at least one image server; encoding the authorization code on a physical medium; storing the digital images and the assigned authorization code on the image server; returning the developed negatives and the physical medium containing the encoded authorization code to the photographer; receiving the authorization code from the physical medium at a kiosk from a second photographer; retrieving a set of thumbnails representing the digital images represented by the authorization code from the image server; displaying the thumbnails to the second photographer; receiving an order for a visual print from the second photographer; producing the visual print; and distributing the visual print.

A data processing system includes client workstations, mass storage devices, input-output peripherals, and a server subsystem. The server subsystem includes a security server that accepts user information from a workstation and grants a security ticket to the workstation in response to the user's authorization level. The server subsystem also includes a volume manager that controls object storage to, and retrieval from, the mass storage subsystem. The volume manager caches objects related to a requested object. A domain server maintains a server map relating server names to physical network addresses, a volume map relating volume names to a corresponding volume manager, and a family map relating volume family names to a corresponding volume manager.
