Systems, methods, and computer-readable media for facilitating initiation of communication actions in accordance with cable attributes. In one embodiment, cable attributes are referenced that indicate utilization of a cable device at a time a communication event is directed to a user device. The user device and the cable device may be associated with the same user. Communication actions to apply in accordance with the communication event are determined based on at least one of the cable attributes. Thereafter, the communication actions are initiated, for example, such that a user is provided with an indication of the communication event visually via the cable device and/or audibly via the user device, depending on the particular cable attributes.

Facilitating communication actions in accordance with cable attributes

A call setup system and method configured to setup a wireless media session extending from a first network to a second network are provided. The system in one example embodiment includes media gateways (MG-Bs) of a first network interface of an interconnect network and a soft switch B (SSW-B) within the first network. The SSW-B receives a media session initiation from a wireless communication device B (WCD-B) of the first network, wherein the WCD-B is attempting to initiate a media session to a wireless communication device A (WCD-A) of the second network, obtains a MG-Bx network address of a selected MG-Bx of the one or more MG-Bs, forwards a call initiation information to a SSW-A of the second network, and receives a media gateway MG-Ax network address from the SSW-A, wherein the WCD-B of first network is placed in communication with the WCD-A of the second network via the selected MG-Bx and the selected MG-Ax.

Call setup system and method for setting up a wireless media session extending from a first network to a second network

A method of extending a peer-to-peer platform to a mobile communication device comprises assigning an identifier to a Voice over Internet Protocol identity and sending a license key to a trusted register in the mobile communication device. The method further comprises cross listing the identifier with the Voice over Internet Protocol identity, wherein a call placed to the Voice over Internet Protocol identity is routed to both an electronic device and the mobile communication device and routing a Voice Over Internet Protocol call addressed to the Voice over Internet Protocol identity to both the electronic device and the mobile communication device, wherein the call routing to the mobile communication device is based on the identifier and the cross listing.

A method, apparatus, and system for causing a mobile wireless device to begin scanning for wireless network coverage. A determination is made, based on one or more past instances of the mobile device being in a particular area, that the mobile device tends to be in the particular area for at least a threshold duration per instance. Further, a determination is made that the mobile device is currently located in the particular area. In response to at least the determination that the mobile device tends to be in the particular area for at least the threshold duration per instance and the determination that the mobile device is currently in the particular area, the mobile device will be made to scan for wireless network coverage, such as coverage of a network that is known exist in the particular area.

Embodiments disclosed herein provide systems and methods for providing Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) emergency calls via a wireless communication network. In a particular embodiment, a method provides receiving an emergency call request from a VoIP communication network initiated by a VoIP communication client operating on the VoIP communication network. The method further provides processing the emergency call request to determine a wireless device associated with the VoIP communication client. The method further provides determining a location of the wireless device and determining a public safety answering point (PSAP) based on the location of the wireless device. The method further provides establishing an emergency call between the VoIP communication client and the PSAP via the wireless communication system and the VoIP communication network based on the location of the wireless device.

Wireless communication system for routing emergency calls from a VoIP network

A communication system comprises a voice over internet protocol (VoIP) service system and a location determination system. The VoIP service system is configured to receive a call request for an emergency service from a user, process the call request to determine a wireless communication device identifier associated with the user, and transfer a location request for delivery to a location determination system in a wireless network serving the wireless communication device. The location determination system is configured to receive the location request, process the location request to determine a location of the wireless communication device and a possession confidence metric that indicates a level of confidence that the user is in possession of the wireless communication device, and transfer a location response for delivery to the VoIP service system. The VoIP service system is configured to, if the possession confidence metric exceeds a threshold, transfer the call request for the emergency service for delivery to an emergency service provider that serves the location.

Methods and systems are provided for natural-language surveillance of packet-based communications. Speech data is received, representing at least part of a speech session. The speech data is compared with at least one speech-characteristics profile in an automated manner. The comparing step comprises using natural-language-processing (NLP) to compare the speech data with the profiles on at least one of a lexical level, a syntactic level, a semantic level, a discourse level, and a pragmatic level. It is determined in an automated manner whether the speech data matches any of the profiles. If the speech data matches at least one profile, an indication that the speech data matches the at least one matching profile is responsively stored.
