A game controller has first and second controllers detachably coupled to a bridge or an information handling system housing to provide inputs to a gaming application executing on the information handling system, such as from a joystick input device integrated in each controller. Logic stored in non-transitory memory of the information handling system executes to track game controllers based upon unique identifiers retrieved from each controller to the information handling system, such as through a direct coupling of the controllers to the information handling system or indirect communication by the information handling system with a bridge directly coupled to the controllers. The information handling system sets priority for inputs from game controllers based upon controller unique identifiers and also tracks composite game controller assemblies that include controllers and a bridge.

Detachable information handling system game controller management

A portable information handling system interacts with haptic devices of a game controller though a direct wired interface when the game controller couples to opposing sides of the information handling system and through a wireless interface when the game controller couples to a bridge having a wired interface to communicate with the game controller and a wireless interface to communicate with the information handling system. The haptic devices provide a first haptic response associated with a desired vibration for a weight of game controller and information handling system when the game controller couples directly to the information handling system, and a second haptic response associated with the desired vibration for a weight of the game controller and bridge when the game controller couples directly to the bridge for wireless communication with the information handling system.

In one embodiment, a method for managing visual uniformity in a foldable display includes identifying a hinge angle of the foldable display, the hinge angle indicating a degree to which the foldable display is opened or closed; receiving surface curvature data from a plurality of sensors of the foldable display, the surface curvature data indicating a mechanical state of a surface of the foldable display; accessing a plurality of surface maps stored in a display database of the foldable display, each of the plurality of surface maps indicating one or more display settings associated with a respective mechanical state of the surface of the foldable display; retrieving the one or more display settings from the display database based on the hinge angle and the surface curvature data; and causing a plurality of pixels to illuminate using the one or more display settings.

Foldable display for an information handling system

Certain IHSs (Information Handling Systems) may utilize displays that are foldable. Foldable displays may utilize OLED (organic light-emitting diode) display technology, which is particularly susceptible to screen burn-in. Embodiments implement procedures for mitigation of screen burn-in of a foldable display. When folded, a foldable display is logically divided into screen portions based on the locations of the folds. Embodiments mitigate screen burn-in separately in each these screen portions that are created by folding the display. A gap may be displayed along the length of the folds of a folded display, thus separating the different screen portions. Embodiments may implement procedures for mitigating screen burn-in from displaying such a gap. Embodiments may also determine screen portions of a folded display that are actively in use and may implement procedures for mitigating screen burn-in in inactive portions of the folded display.

Systems and methods for prototyping a virtual model are described. In some embodiments, an Information Handling System (IHS) may include a host processor and a memory coupled to the host processor, the memory having program instructions stored thereon that, upon execution, cause the IHS to: produce a virtual object for display by a Head-Mounted Device (HMD) coupled to the IHS during execution of a virtual, augmented, or mixed reality (xR) application; execute a command with respect to the virtual object to produce a manipulated virtual object displayed by the HMD; and transmit an electronic file corresponding to the manipulated virtual object to a three-dimensional (3D) printer coupled to the IHS, where the electronic file enables the 3D printer to build a physical instance of the manipulated virtual object.

Systems and methods for prototyping a virtual model

An Information Handling System (IHS) includes a foldable display and is configured to determine a posture of the IHS based on the angle that the display is folded. The folded display is divided into first and second screen portions. Changes in the posture of the IHS are detected and the content and orientation of the content to display in the respective screen portions is determined. A gap is displayed along the fold of the foldable display, where the gap separates the screen portions along the fold. The width of the gap separating the screen portions may be determined based on the angle that the foldable display is folded and/or based on various additional aspects of the current posture of the IHS.

A system for communicating interactive instructions to a user intercepts video and audio information from an information handling system hosting a game, analyzes where a user is looking and listens for user commands, generates a list of candidate targets, selects a target profile for each candidate target, applies a prioritization policy to select a target from the list of candidate targets, and communicates haptic information to the user to signal an action to take relative to the selected target. The target may be a threat that the user must engage or evade, an object the user must get or avoid, a location the user must move to or avoid, or a route the user must take to attack or evade a threat or achieve a reward.

In one or more embodiments, a mouse for an information handling system has a plurality of force or tilt sensors. When a sensor detects a force or tilt value above a threshold value, a microcontroller unit (MCU) determines how fast the mouse is moving. If the mouse is moving above a threshold rate, the MCU determines the user is making a coarse movement and the MCU sends the mouse output to a processor for normal cursor adjustment. If the mouse is moving slower than a mouse speed threshold value, the MCU determines the user is trying to make a fine adjustment and the MCU adjusts the mouse sensitivity and sends the mouse output to the processor for fine cursor adjustment. The sensors may be in the bottom, sides or skirt of the mouse or a mousepad associated with the mouse.

A game controller has first and second controller housings having an attachment guide structure that detachably couples to an attachment tab structure disposed on opposing sides of an information handling system and a bridge. Input devices of the controller housing communicate directly with the information handling system through opposing pins and pads disposed in the attachment features or indirectly by communicating with the bridge through opposing pins and pads so the bridge communicates with the information handling system. The attachment guide structure has opposing lips with plural slots that pass tabs of the attachment tab structure through so that a sliding motion engages the tabs behind the lips. Magnets of opposing polarity repel attachment attempts when a game controller attempts to attach to an opposite side of an information handling system or bridge housing from that which the game controller is intended to attach, such as a left side controller attached to a right side of a bridge or information handling system.

A game controller has first and second controller housings that detachably couple to an information handling system and a bridge to communicate inputs by plural input devices directly with the information handling system or indirectly by communicating with the bridge so the bridge communicates with the information handling system. The information handling system operates in a handheld mode with game controller input devices, such as joysticks and triggers, coupled for use at opposing sides of the information handling system housing, or in a standalone mode with the game controllers detached from the information handling system and attached to a bridge so that the bridge communicates the controller inputs to the information handling system. Attachment of a game controller to a bridge or information handling system is aided with opposing polarity magnets at proper alignment. If a game controller attempts to couple to an opposite of an intended side, like polarity of the magnets repel the game controller from the bridge or information handling system.

In an illustrative, non-limiting embodiment, an IHS may include a processor and a memory coupled to the processor, the memory having program instructions stored thereon that, upon execution by the processor, cause the IHS to: produce a work area on a second display, wherein the second display is coupled to a first display via a hinge; detect that a keyboard is placed on the second display; and in response to the detection, reduce the work area into one or more areas unobstructed by the keyboard.

In an illustrative, non-limiting embodiment, an IHS may include a processor and a memory coupled to the processor, the memory having program instructions stored thereon that, upon execution by the processor, cause the IHS to: identify a posture of a first display relative to a second display; retrieve a touch continuity parameter corresponding to the posture; and enable touch continuity between the first and second displays using the touch continuity parameter.

In one or more embodiments, one or more systems, processes, and/or methods may receive first video streams, of a user, from respective first cameras, at respective first locations and construct, from the first video streams, a single video stream that includes forward-facing images of the user. One or more movements of the user may be tracked, and based on the tracking, a hand-off to second cameras may occur.
