A transporter that includes a platform for supporting a load and at least one primary ground-contacting element. The transporter includes an actuator for applying torque to the at least one primary ground-contacting element for propelling the transporter with respect to a surface. The transporter also includes a controller for controlling the actuator, the controller includes an input for receiving specification by a user of a desired direction of travel based on a position of a member with respect to a fiducial axis, a differentiator for calculating a rate of change of the position of the member with respect to the fiducial axis, and a processor for generating a yaw command signal based at least on the position of the member and the rate of change of the position of the member which is weighted based on the level of experience of the user.

Enhanced control of a transporter

An audio alarm for a transporter having an electric motor. The alarm has a signal generator for generating a signal within the audible frequency range and a modulator for modulating a current that is applied to the electric motor in accordance with the signal generated by the signal generator.

Transporter motor alarm

An electric device includes a motor and a motor drive for commanding a torque generated by the motor. A fault control circuit detects a fault condition associated with the motor drive. Upon detection of the fault condition, the fault control circuit adjusts the torque commanded by the motor drive.

Method and system for fail-safe motor operation

An improved user interface is installed in the cabin of a vehicle incorporating a cabin communication system using acoustic echo cancellation for improving the ease and flexibility of the cabin communication. Separate controls at each seat location enable the person occupying that seat to selectively converse with other occupants in the vehicle, create a recorded message and/or place a telephone call.

A device and method for providing yaw control for a balancing transporter that has two laterally disposed ground-contacting wheels. The method has the steps of receiving a user input of a desired yaw value; comparing an instantaneous yaw value with the desired yaw value to generate a yaw error value; processing the yaw error value to obtain a yaw command signal; and applying the yaw command signal in conjunction with a pitch command signal based on a pitch error in such a manner as to maintain balance of the transporter in the course of executing yaw control. The yaw command signal may include component terms quadratic in the pitch error and/or a function of a common wheel rotational velocity. A control input mechanism is wirelessly coupled to the controller of the balancing transporter so as to maintain the sealed integrity of a user interface.

Yaw control for a personal transporter

A system for controlling power in a remote signalling device includes an electronic controller, a transmitter portion and a signal conditioning portion. The electronic controller preferably determines the characteristics of the desired transmitted signal and provides information regarding those characteristics to the transmitter portion. The electronic controller also provides a power control signal to the transmitter portion. The controller determines the characteristics of the power control signal depending on the characteristics of the desired transmitted signal and other preselected factors. The power control signal preferably is processed by the signal conditioning portion so that it provides the desired voltage to the transmitter portion. The power control signal regulates the signal strength from the transmitter portion so that more consistent and effective communications are provided to accommodate a variety of transmitted signals and varying operating conditions over the life of the remote signalling device.
