Automated systems and methods for creating a plan for performing a procedure (for example, hair transplantation) are provided. In some embodiments, the plan is generated automatically by a processor. A user interface may be configured to allow a user to input one or more of the parameters of the plan. In certain embodiments, the hair transplantation plan takes into consideration existing hair.

Automated systems and methods for removing hair from a body surface is provided. The methods and systems are semi- or fully automated. Some of the steps of the methods comprise determining a hair growth phase and selecting hair follicles for depilation based at least in part of the identified hair growth phase. The energy delivery device may be attached to the robotic arm and directed to align with the hair follicle to be depilated.

A computer-based system generating audible feedback to assist with guidance of at least one trackable point in space is provided. Surgical embodiments include generating audible feedback (to supplement visual and tactile feedback) to a surgeon moving the tip of a probe, for example, in a surgical field with respect to a volume of interest such as a tumor. Other surgical embodiments include generating audible feedback to assist with the precise insertion of a pedicle screw. In such surgical embodiments, as a surgeon moves a probe or instrument within the surgical field, a computer analyzes the current position of the probe and/or instrument in space with respect to a system of fiducial markers. The computer then provides audible feedback to the surgeon as to the position of the probe and/or instrument with respect to predetermined feature(s) of interest (such as a tumor) previously identified on a computer reconstruction of the surgical view obtained, for example, by a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan, a computerized tomography (CT) scan and/or an ultrasound scan. The audible feedback may vary in numerous ways, such as in tone, volume, pattern and/or style, as the probe and/or instrument moves relative to the feature(s) of interest.

A noninvasive alignment apparatus for providing a stereotactic interface between a noninvasive stereotactic adapter mounted on a patient's head and a medical device, such as, an imaging device or a radiotherapy machine. The apparatus permits a method of noninvasive fractionated radiotherapy to be practiced. The alignment apparatus is constructed of separable arcuate segments to facilitate the insertion of the patient's head and stereotactic adapter within the apparatus. The alignment apparatus further has various calibrated shafts for each of its movable elements, so that, after the alignment apparatus is initially positioned and adjusted on an imaging machine, its position with respect to the stereotactic adapter may be replicated later on a radiotherapy machine.

A method and positioning apparatus for interrelating the positions of a stereotactic headring and a stereoadapter apparatus is disclosed. The interrelation of these elements allow coordinates established for specific intracranial areas by the stereoadapter apparatus to be aligned with those established for the stereotactic apparatus whereby diagnostic measurements made on the intracranial areas utilizing the stereoadapter apparatus may be used for purposes of intracranial treatments performed utilizing the stereotactic apparatus.
