A method of creating an imageobtained from say a camerato obtain a substantially linear representation of the brightness of the image includes, for each of a set of pixels (x, y) in a two dimensional array, calculating, in a computer, an estimate of the true image intensity (i) as a weighted average of n samples of the apparent image intensity (v). This is calculated as: where vis the apparent intensity measured, Tis the exposure time, K is the gain of the system, C is an offset and wis a weighting factor which is defined to maximize the signal to noise ratio and discard insignificant, that is saturated or near zero, values. Thereafter each of the values &#xee;is saved together with other data representing the image, before the image is output to a displayor to a printing device.

Method of obtaining an image

An ejection apparatus for ejecting material from a liquid at a plurality of ejection locations () disposed in a row, has a plurality of channels () through each of which liquid flows in use to or from a respective ejection location at an open end of the channel. An ejection electrode () is disposed at each ejection location by means of which an electric field is created in use to cause the ejection of material from the liquid. An electrically conductive path () exists to each ejection electrode for supplying a voltage to the ejection electrode () in use. The channels () are isolated from one another and the electrically conductive paths () are separated from the channels over substantially the whole of their length.

Ejection apparatus for printhead

A system is provided for creating a larger montage image 8 of an object from a series of smaller source images 7 of different views of an object through, say, a microscope which forms an imaging means for providing images of an object. A data storage means such a framestore board 4 in a computer 5 stores data representative of the montage image of the object. Data representative of a first and subsequent source images is included in that representative of the montage image, in order to increase the data stored representative of the montage image. In order to do this, a measure of the extent of matching of the most recent source image provided by the imaging means and individual ones of a plurality of regions of the montage image which correspond in area is provided and the data representative of subsequent source images is included in the data representative of the montage image when the measure of the extent of matching is at a maximum, whereby the source image is matched to the montage image at the correct position.

There is disclosed an ejection apparatus for ejecting material from a fluid.
